Ethan's 2Nd Birthday--Choo Choo Train Cake
My son loves trains so for his second birthday I made him this choo choo train cake. I used the Wilton train pan and some plastic figures for the animals and conductor--all cream cheese buttercream with a few M&Ms on the wheels and light. From the moment this pan entered our house, my son was very excited. He'd point to the pan and say "choo choo". I decorated the cake last night and he wouldn't go to sleep until it was finished. The only other time he's acted like that was on Christmas Eve!
What an awesome train, I love the way you did the smoke!
I'm making this cake tonight, how did you make the smoke, and what buttercream recipe do you ue?
To make the smoke, I used a large star tip (16 or 1M). To give it the smokey effect, I filled the piping bag with offwhite icing and then took some black icing and put it in the bag and swirled the black around in the bag with a spoon. I stirred it just enough to get a random mixed effect, not a gray icing. I used Earlene's buttercream recipe and will pm it to you.
