I have a cake requested of attached (shirt and vest).  Was wondering of ideas to get the pattern on the vest.  The vest according to the customer is denim blue although in all pictures she sent me appear black.  Either way, wondering how to get the vest pattern.  Any ideas?  Thanks all....55c3ebf014766.jpeg

There are some things that are just not possible in icing.  I would say this is one of them.

Do you think an edible image placed on fondant before cutting out vest?

I'd do an edible image for that. You can apply wafer paper etc to buttercream as long as you don't refrigerate the cake, but it's easier to attach it to fondant.

You can get a very fine screen, lay it on your fondant and then airbrush it.

I like the screen idea form stefkovic! If you don't have an airbrush, you can use a can of spray color.

(Thanks for sharing the video, Ropalma, I will try that in the future for denim!)

Thanks Ladies,

Not sure why I didn't get the majority of the responses until today.  I ended up getting the burlap roller from Wilton and I think it did a great job.  Here are pics.   What do you think?564130af7fce6.jpeg564130b0f063f.jpeg

This was a very interesting thread. Love the final cake and thank you for letting us know that Wilton makes a burlap roller. Information filed in my brain already :)
