I have a request for a cherry filling in a child's birthday cake and the one I usually use has brandy in it. Would it be gross to just mix some cherry pie filling in with my usual buttercream? I want it to be kid friendly and I haven't found exactly what I'm looking for in the recipes section.

I would just use straight cherry pie filling myself and not mix it with buttercream.

Or you could mix cherry jam/preserves in with the buttercream. I've done that a few times with different flavors and it turns out well.

Sounds yummy to me. I love anything with cherries .

Sounds good to me, too! Maybe I should have had breakfast before I wrote this, though.

I say gross, only because I can't stand cherry pie filling!

dchockeyguy,
That made me laugh...I feel that way about spice cake...it's so funny ...we all have our flavor preferences...I was thinking if they're REAL foodies, try and do something with sour cheeries...you can find them in gourmet stores in a jar and they are yummy and won't have that "pre-made" taste.
