I've got a request for a cake. The customer brought in a photo box that she wants me to model it after, that's fine, but the thing is - she wants the same glossy look that's on the box... on the cake. I told her that I'd get back to her later today and I just need to know if there's a way I can get this complexion or should I just try and work something else out w/ her.
If you're using fondant, maybe you could coat it with piping gel (maybe not, never tried it). Would she be satisfied if you used lustre dust to make it shimmer? Those are my only ideas. Good luck.

Can you send us a photo. I do not think piping gel on an edible image would work. Are you doing an edible image? Need more information. Wont the gel smudge the image
Use fondant and cover it with some glycerine and water mixed together for a glossy shine
thanks for all the quick responses, sorry it took me so long to get back....she told me I could use fondant or buttercream and an edible image is alright by her. what do you guys think the best way/combo would be?
o and piping gel is fine to use, too.
there is also spray edible lacquer (pricey) that is used in the world of candy making ....
super high gloss sheen
link to source for : spray lacquer
or burshable, sprayable confectionary glaze (less pricey)
link to soure for: confectionary glaze
both were found at: http://pastrychef.com/ -- they have all kinds of goodies!
If you are using fondant....you can use a mixture of corn syrup and vodka and brush on and it will give a sheen. 1 tsp corn syrup to 1 tsp vodka. Don't know if this will work on top of an edible image.
What is a photo box?????
it's just a cardboard or wooden box or what have you that you keep photos in
