Bowling
Cake made for my 18 year-old nephew's birthday. This was my first attempt at those candy mold things....the pins were candy as were the balls/pins at the corners. The cake was covered in fondant. The balls and ball holder thing is fondant too. The gutters were cut out, frosted and covered in black fondant. Time consuming cake but he liked it so it was worth it. The more I look at the photo the more I realize I should go back to "Cake Leveling 101"....holy goodness, talk about a rounded top!

Snowplow
Snowplow for my son's 5th birthday. Wow, this was seriously a lot of work. OMG. The wheels are Ding Dongs. The sides of the truck as well as the blade were both made 6 days in advance. The "silvery" affect on the windows and exhaust pipe is just silver luster dust. If this had been for anybody other than my son I would have thrown my hands up in the air.

Chili Pepper
Chili pepper for chili cookoff. Used big sheet cake and cut the shape. The stem was a different piece. Chili was covered in white fondant then sprayed red (holy goodness, my airbrush pretty much coated my entire kitchen....wow). I guess it turned out okay. Not particularily thrilled with the stem....little incident with the tip....tried to cover it....hopefully nobody will notice...shhhhh.....

Rooster For Chili Cook-Off
This was created for a chili-cookoff. It is SUPPOSED to be a rooster/chicken but with that beak he could very well be mistaken for a bald eagle.....nice. Body is a sports ball pan, head is the 1/2 ball pan thingy. Anyway, the feathers are fondant. They were cut with the nested leaf/teardrop. My fingers will most likely need about a week to recover....wow, I must have cut 5k feathers. Doing the red part sucked....they need to come up with a cookie cutout of rooster-red-face-stuff.

Bucket Of Water With Bath Toys - For Baby Shower
Got idea from Cake Central. Cake was easy as pie to make. The soap bubbles are covered in luster dust. Wood panels are just 1" strips of fondant with "grain" created with sharp edge of knife. If you're a beginner cake maker I would highly suggest this cake....very little skill involved. The soap was the most difficult part....looks like crap if you ask me....couldn't get the letters to look presentable.

Ghosts & Pumpkins!
Got the idea from another cake on CakeCentral (Thanks). The ghosts on top are lollipops covered in fondant. The pumpkin is two mini bunt cakes stuck together. The black "dirt" is crushed oreas (I actually used an orea pie crust to save time). The little ghosts around the border were from some Wilton sprinkles....serious thorn in my side picking all those out! The acorns and leaves (tough to see but the pumpkin is sitting on maple leaves) are fondant.

Farm Cake
Farm cake done for a one-year -olds birthday. I can't begin to tell you how much work went into this cake (sometimes it sucks to have friends that ask for cakes!). All the animals & veggies are fondant. The pond is piping gel. The barn is graham crackers stuck together with royal icing, "sanded" to the appropriate shape and covered in fondant. Lots of work but well worth having a happy friend.

Penguin Winter Scene
Hands down my favorite cake. Got the idea on this site (thanks!). The penguins, fish and igloo tiles are fondant. Trees are sugar cones. Water is piping gel with blue food coloring. The igloo is the Wilton barbie doll cake pan (the dress). The cake was very time consuming but did not take much skill at all.

Spider Cake
Got original idea from this site. The spider is two half circles (some Wilton pan) and the head is a donut hole. The legs are pipe cleaners. If you're thinking of replicating the cake, think twice about the pipe cleaners....little black hairs flaked off them onto the cake. Luckily my buttercream was dry and I able to blow them off with a hard blow thru a straw.

Fish Bowl
First attempt at a 3-D cake. Just a 9" round with the top and bottom cut flat. I guess it turned out okay. I used Nerds for the rocks, Swedish fish, fruit roll-ups for the seaweed and a can of blue spray for the H20. I used straws inserted into the cake diagnolly to keep it from falling apart.

Mmf Christmas Trees
Found original idea on this site & in Wilton mag. The cake looks okay from this pic but, trust me, up close it was not so good. I made a huge mistake by piping the lines on the trees prior to sticking them together. Every single tree I had to chip off the royal icing in order to get the tree to go together correctly. Plus, my trees were flat, obviously my cake was not...I lack forethought....I should have dried the trees on something with a slight arch. Oh well, live and learn.
