About PieceOfCake2014
I've pretty much been a stay at home mom since my 1st child was born in 2004. Last year for my 4 year old daughters birthday I really wanted to have an over the top frozen themed cake without spending hundreds of dollars to buy one. I was determined to make it myself even though I have never been much of a baker. I mean, I was burning cookies prior to that lol! Months before her birthday, I set out on this crazy journey and began educating myself with 100's of video tutorials on YouTube for everything cake related- cutting layers, stacking layers, how to roll fondant, how to put fondant on a cake, what's the best frosting to use under fondant, heck I even had to watch videos on frosting a cake! (no I did not know how to properly frost a cake! I didn't even own a tip!) The list of videos I watched is endless. My hopes weren't set very high for the first one, but I was going to give it my all regardless. The outcome of that cake still amazes me when I look at it. I mean, who knew you could become a cake baker from watching YouTube tutorials?! After that, I made a few others for personal occasions. After my 3rd one I decided "hey I'm pretty good at this maybe I can sell one!" I posted the pictures of my cakes on some local garage sale sites just to see the type of response I'd get and within minutes I was being flooded with fb messages. I've since created a fb page and do a few cakes here and there on the side. I love doing it but it is sometimes very stressful as I still have a lot to learn. What better place to learn and share ideas than cake central?! Looking forward to sharing with everyone!
