Camellia Cake
A cake inspired by the Japanese tradition: green lustre for the tiers with golden stenciled details, a reference to traditional kimono's textures. For the floral decorations, I used sprays with sugar camellias, camellia leaves and stemona japonica. Special decorative detail is the Tama kanzashi (Japanese hairpin decoration) used to match the floral sprays.

"un Ballo In Maschera" Cake
Opera inspiration for cake decorating Giuseppe Verdi's "Un ballo in maschera", an opera in three acts on a text by Antonio Somma, draws on a French libretto by Eugene Scribe for Daniel Auber’s “Gustace III ou Le bal masque”. The basic outline of plot is built around an historic event, the murder of Swedish King Gustav III in 1792 during a masked ball at Stockholm’s opera. The decoration of the cake was inspired by a masked ball and includes elements and textures, such as a totally handmade mask, which was made out of gumpaste, and of course some sugar flowers and feathers, which were also made out of gumpaste. For the decoration of the top and middle tiers, we’ve used pearl white and gold lustre effect technique.

Norma Cake
Opera inspiration for cake decorating Vincenzo’s Bellini “Norma” is a tragedia lirica in two acts, based on a libretto by Felice Romani after Alexandre Soumet’s verse tragedy “Norma ou l’ infanticide” which received its premiere on 26 December 1831 at Teatro alla Scala, Milan. Norma, a Druid high priestess, had a secret affair resulting in two children with the Roman proconsul Pollione. He has now fallen in love with the younger priestess Adalgisa, and intends to marry her in Rome. After Gaul soldiers arrest Pollione, Norma confesses her in sin publicly. Her magnanimity rekindles the proconsul’s love for her. Both are led to the pyre. Famous aria: Casta Diva (here sung by “La Divina”) This 3 tier cake inspired by Bellini’s “Norma” combines various decorative elements with reference to neoclassical textures and borders in golden shade and a fantasy magnolia in velvet red made out from gumpaste, as well.
