Cake was half strawberry/half chocolate with vanilla buttercream, covered with gray marshmallow fondant. After I used hand tools to 'carve' bark shapes, I airbrushed black lightly along the the deeper cuts and then airbrushed a light coat of brown over the whole cake. Moss at the bottom made from crushed graham crackers covered with 3 different Americolor green gels. Mushrooms, baby and leaves all made from fondant. Cut out a rough circle in the top fondant and replace with a gold fondant disc and drew in the tree rings with brown edible marker. Really happy with how my first airbrushed cake turned out.
Head piece for a 3D zombie torso cake for our son's cast party for Living Dead in Denmark. This is sculpted fondant over a foam head that I then hand painted with ivory food gel diluted with rum and then added edible blood. Could have gone with sculpted cake, but they didn't need that many extra cake servings and I could get a jump on timing by making this early and putting it on the cake that will be the upper torso and shoulders later. Will post pics of completed cake when it's done.
