Butterfly Life Cycle For 2005 Arizona Annual Cake And Sugar Arts Show
The theme of the show was "New Beginnings". My cake represented the life cycle as a caterpillar turns into a butterfly. There were 5 size stages of caterpillars shown, as well as the crysalis and butterflies on top. The butterflies were made following directions on this site. I hand-modeled the caterpillars and colored them with a combination of pens and gel colors. The leaves were made with marbelized fondant.

Surprise New Grandma Baby Cake
This was my first paid cake, although I haven't gotten the money yet (we will see!). We surprised a co-worker with a baby shower, as she is becoming a grandma next week. I took a lot of ideas from cakes on this site to come up with this cake. The baby and blanket are MMF, the rest is BC. The clouds have TONS of piping gel to get the sparkly sort of look. It was white cake, bottom layered with lemon filling (pudding) and top layered with strawberry ice cream topping mixed with frosting (awesome!).

My First Shaped Cake - The One That Started It All
This is the first cake I did that was 'decorated' at all. Just thought it would be cute to post how far I have come. I used the shavings from the cake (there were a ton before I learned what I know about getting even baking, etc) to shape the ears and nose up. It is choc cake with chocolate frosting from a can! Now I laugh. I used powdered sugar for the eyes and built up the frosting a little bit at a time to make a mouth and tongue (you might not be able to see that from here though).

Goodbye Girl Star Cake
This was supposed to be a cheerleader type of girl - I was going to write something about 'Katie is a superSTAR' (ref to the star shape), but it didn't happen that way. I used MMF for the first time on this cake, it is the legs (waist-down), skirt, hands, face, and pink pearl necklace and bracelet. The rest of the decorations are BC. This was choc-white-choc-white with butterscotch filling and vanilla BC.

Course I Class 3 Clown Cake
I made 4 clowns with white BC with red & blue bag striping. I also did the shell border the same way. I think I did the top shells wrong - should they not be on an angle to the corner, but instead resting fully on the top? I wasn't sure - we don't learn that type of thing in class, just how to make them on a flat surface.

Arizona Diamondbacks Cake W/ Baseball - My 1St Stacked Cake!
Baseball done with 1/2 of sports ball pan. I outlined the A logo and used a brush dipped in water to smooth it out. This is the first time I've tried that, and also the first time I've done a shell border (I've only done 2 classes of Wilton's Course I). This was for a 3-yr old's baseball themed birthday party. I am pleased with how it turned out!
