Craftsy Dragonette, "sculpted Adventure" Class
Craftsy Dragonette, "Sculpted Adventure" Class - My new Craftsy Class, "Sculpted Adventures" is finally OUT! In this class I will show you my support method, which, combined with my food-safe method creates an organically sturdy framework just as muscle and bone do in an actual animal. I cover how to make a sitting Dragonette, but really this is a technique-based class that you can use to make ANY sitting animal. We cover the WHOLE process, from the board up! Class materials include full-scale patterns, material lists, and personal access to ME via the awesome @Craftsy platform <3 If you haven't checked out Craftsy's amazing class selection (including many FREE ones!), I highly recommend them as a resource for any Maker. Rainbow Connection
Rainbow Connection - 2/14/15- Part of the wonderful Be My Valentine Collaboration, dedicated to all who would like to be in love without boundaries, without fear or discrimination. We believe, everyone has the right to be loved and be in love freely. "Love with no boundaries. Your future depends on your capacity to love " Paulo Coelho My personal vision was to portray the full-spectrum, vibrant, dancing energetic connection two concious beings can make. I attempted to symbolize the shared creation that fills both beings with thrilling light, hope, and Love and Color...independent of the differences of the body like skin color, religion, age, or gender. It could be said that this sculpture is also about Agape, or Pure Love, which can be between any beings who recognize each other in mutual admiration and connection. Maybe that is why the tune that kept running through my head while creating this was: "Someday we'll find it, the Rainbow Connection, the Lovers, the Dreamers, and Me"! Happy Valentines Day to you and your Loved Ones, and Thank You Hajnalka for a Collab well-run! "frog Prince": Rackham Illustration Cake
"Frog Prince": Rackham Illustration Cake -8/18/13 - Here it is! Awhile back I was invited by CakeCentral.com to participate in a Theme for their Vol4 Issue 10 edition addressing the work of artist Arthur Rackham (9/19/1867-9/6/1939). I was asked to use his illustrations of "The Frog Prince" to inspire a cake design. There were two Rackham illustrations for this story, and I chose the one of the Princess with the Frog at the well, in the deep dark woods. This cake was started as one lump of ivory fondant tinted various shades and then painted with a uniform sepia wash to match the tones of the original illustration.

"a Mother's Love Goes Safari"
My Entry into this year's Sweet Times in the Rockies Cake Show here in Denver Colorado. The Home and Garden Show theme this year was "Safari". I love giraffes. Absolutely love them. When the mama kisses her baby I just melt. My family also loves "Meerkat Manor" and Flower, so she just had to join them in a moment of admiration of a huge blue butterfly. The bodies of both giraffes are cake, with Mama resting on a custom-made food-safed board with wire legs and neck. Modeling chocolate makes up the neck, head, legs. This sweet pair was the Winner of the People's Choice Award at the Sweet Times in the Rockies Cake Show. Thank you everyone who voted, and to the folks who put on the Show!

Red Dragonling Cake
Red Dragonling Cake by H. Sherman, Art2Eat Cakes - 6/2/11 - This is my second most popular cake, and was made as a donation to our daughter's school for the annual Silent Auction. The winner of the auction was having a Renaissance Birthday Party for her son, and she asked him to describe his role-playing 'character'. He said: "(He) is a red dragonling. Which means an immature dragon who has wings but cannot yet fly. In his hand he holds a white healing orb which is a orb that casts healing spells". Okay! I Love a specific request! This one was Vanilla Orange cake and was filled with Milk Chocolate buttercream. The spines and claws are made of gumpaste, and the scales are from colored fondant. If the birthday boy had been a bit older I might have used red velvet cake...har-har. His mom tells me every time she sees me how much fun he had with that cake and that he was the absolute center of attention on his Birthday!

String Cheese Incident Jellyfish Cake by H. Sherman Art2Eat Cakes - Music helps me Make Cake! I've loved these SCI guys for YEARS, but there was so much to choose from visually that I needed to consult with some folks who bleed Cheese on this one. Special design consultation Thanks to David Schitter, Liz Wilson, C Alan Crandall, and Daniella Katzir for your expertise! This cake was composed of MegaVanilla cake with Chocolate Buttercream, and was truly enjoyed by all - such kind and pleasant folks they are! A wire supported the large tentacles, and the jellyfish head by a rod, but everything else is freestanding sugar. Thanks for having us - looking forward to New Years! ;-)

Papa Penguin And Egg
Our littlest daughter LOVES penguins, and the familiar movie we all know that shows so many of them. This 3-d sculpted cake was a huge hit - yet another delighted client. She even hung tough when it came time to cut the head off, but Grandma nearly fainted. Baby Birthday Girl's favorite cake is mama's Golden Almond Vanilla with lots and lots of chocolate ganache. This one has a gumpaste/fondant center head and egg. The egg was surprisingly difficult. Powder color was used on the neck tint, and the mouth on the beak is hand-painted.

Rainbow Unicorn-Pegasus Mama And Baby Cake By H. Sherman, Art2Eat Cakes
Rainbow Unicorn-Pegasus Mama and Baby Cake by H. Sherman, Art2Eat Cakes - 7/18/11- This is undoubtedly my most popular cake. It recently went viral on the Web, and clocked over 3000 Flickr views one day in April, currently over 14,000. My middle daughter has always been very specific in her Birthday requests, and this one was no different. When she requested this one, I was not too surprised. She wanted "a Rainbow Pegasus Unicorn with a Rainbow Horn and Rainbow wings and a tiny baby unicorn too". Anything for you my little Baby Rainbow Pegacorn! This creation was filled with Golden Almond Pound Cake with pineapple-mango filling and Vanilla Buttercream. The feathers and mane are made of individually hand-shaped hardened gumpaste. The wings and head have a food-safe internal support skeleton and are composed of rice-krispy-treat. It was a HUGE hit at the party, and my 7-yr-old was very brave when it came time to cut into it. No one cried, I promise, and once they discovered how delicious the inside was, it was all forgotten and forgiven!
