I made this cake for my own birthday. I used cherry pie filling in a chocolate cake mix and decided to top the cake with more pie filling. Good thing I took a picture right away because I didn't let the frosting edge set long enough. With the liquid from the filling, it slowly oozed down the side taking the edging with it. LOL The cake was a mess, but it tasted great.
I got the directions for this cake off of Wilton.com. It's almost exactly like what they have with one exception. I melted chocolate and stuck pretzels in to make the "campground sign".
My son wanted a "sea monster" cake. He also requested the great white and killer whale. My favorite is the great white. I made the sea monster using candy clay made from green candy melts. This was my time using the clay. Although I like the monster, the clay wasn't stiff enough to have his head stay up. Any tips on working with candy clay would be appreciated. Thanks for looking.
This is a one of two monkeys I did on either side of the cake.
This cake is made using mostly canned frosting. Some of it was thickened with powdered sugar for better details. I also used some canned royal icing. Tinted piping gel was used for the water over blue frosting.
This is a cake I did for a friend's son. The top part of the cross looked bare after I put the words in, so I added roses like I'd seen on similar cakes.
