40Th Birthday Cake.
This is a 40th Birthday cake I made for a colleague at work. I made a model of her to sit on top, and a map of Cyprus, as she loves to holiday there. The cake was to be for 100 people, but when I made it, it seemed too shallow. I then made another 12" square sponge and sandwiched the two together. One of these cakes uses 13 eggs, so by the time I had finished I had used 26 eggs! However, she was very pleased with it and at least there was enough to go round!

Guitar Cake
I made this cake using an 8" round, a 6" round and a 6" square Madeira cake. I cut and shaped them together. Covering in sugar paste, I made a 'wood grain' effect by adding some darker brown to pale brown paste and not blending in completely. After I had piped the strings, the fun started! When I moved the cake on to a table, the strings broke into little pieces as the two boards I had joined together were not quite level. I had to redo the strings which was a bit of a pain. I used a large storage box to transport the cake and luckily it reached the party without any strings breaking!

Mermaid Cake
This cake was for my daughter's 8th Birthday. I coloured the sugar paste base with blue and green coloured paste, and deliberately didn't mix it in fully. This created a marbled effect. The mermaids were modelled from sugar paste with a little Tylo powder added. I brushed some silver petal dust on to the cake to make the waves, and also on to the mermaid's tails, starfish and fish to finish.
