Football Cake
This cake will forever be referred to as the Charlie-Brown football cake, because like CB, football success was frustrating and painful! I had three epic fails before I was able to produce this final product. This cake started out as a 3-D version that was (finally) structurally sound, HOWEVER, I had a filling blow-out that ruined the fondant on the bottom tier and was forced to dissect it and salvage the top tier. After I got it on the cakeboard and smoothed out the bottom cut edge as best I could, I decided to pipe a border to hide a few imperfections. Warmest day so far, was 70 degrees overnight and the buttercream softened and fell away from the football. As Charlie Brown would say, "AAAAAAARRGGHHH!!!" Through all the frustration, I learned so much! 1. No batter add-ins for 3D cakes. 2. Pound cake a MUST for supporting layers. 3. Full-over-the-rim pan of baked cake to avoid blowouts. 4. 3-D horizontal-oriented cylinder shapes are just plain TOUGH, Lucy!

Paris Cake
This cake was my first cake project after doing only cookies. I've taken no formal classes, self taught. Eiffel tower inspired by another Cake Central user. Intended to stack layers, but when tower was done, base was too wide for smallest layer. Never piped drop lines before...got cocky and decided not to use marker. It shows! MMF, Royal Icing for tower, and buttercream. For anyone thinking of attempting tower, pick color other than black! Royal Icing was weakened by the amount of FC required. Next time, I'm considering attempting tower in piped candy melts or some other medium.
