Northwest Themed Cake
My painter decided to challenge himself with this Northwest themed cake by painting free hand white on black. No prints or stencils. His work only gets better with each piece! Black fondant Northwest themed cake with free-hand painted orcas, Mt. Rainier, pine forest, wolf, and Puget Sound under moonlight, topped with fondant pine cones.

1St Birthday Cake
My niece celebrated her 1st birthday yesterday! I made her a double chocolate cake with raspberry american buttercream. The bottom tier was covered in fondant ombre ruffles to resemble her tutu. The top tier was removed to serve as her smash cake, complete with royal icing tiara.
Dr. Seuss 3Rd Birthday Cake
This 3rd birthday cake was inspired by the birthday girl's 4 favorite Dr. Seuss books: The Cat in the Hat, Green Eggs and Ham, One Fish Two Fish Red Fish Blue Fish, and The Foot Book. I took a quote from Happy Birthday To You book that I thought would be perfect for the special occasion. My painter painted all of the amazing pictures free hand. The photos are less than professional, but I wanted to share them anyway because I'm very proud of the outcome :) This cake was made possible by Icing Smiles, Inc., a nonprofit organization that provides custom celebration cakes and other treats to families impacted by the critical illness of a child. If you haven't checked them out yet, please do.
I had the privilege of taking a class taught by the brilliant Kaysie Lackey, owner of The People's Cake! It was a ton of fun and I learned so much from her this weekend. She is a cake genius and amazingly generous with her knowledge. And she's a nice person to boot! I'm still shocked at how well my Rudolph turned out, all thanks to Kaysie :) I just wish I had a better camera so you could see it better.
The Seven Ravens
I am incredibly honored to have been asked to participate in Cake Central magazine’s October issue! My cake is on page 106 of Volume 4, Issue 10. I was excited to create a cake inspired by Arthur Rackham’s illustration of the Grimm Brothers’ classic fairytale, The Seven Ravens. Our goal was to actually tell whole the story with the cake. It was challenging and fun and I’d do it again in a heartbeat!
All hand painted jungle cake. My talented husband wanted to a colored painting, as his last two were painted only in black. Some people thought our first hand painted cake was a transfer. I included some progress photos to show that this is all free hand work - no transfers/prints.
Father's Day Cake
Another cake designed by my 6 year-old! I gave him no help with the design at all. This was all out of his imagination, down to the colors. I love the unintentional play on words - we have two sons :)
Kindergarten Teacher Cake
Cake for my son's Kindergarten teacher. This was made to his specifications:) He wanted it to be purple, with a flower, he picked the flower, the letters in white, and that specific message.
2013 Wassa Cake Show Cake
I entered this cake in the Washington State Sugar Artists Cake Show this weekend. The theme was "Out of this World." I got second place. Not bad for my first competition! It was a great experience and I learned a lot. The judges gave me wonderful feedback. I've already got ideas on how to do better and I'm rearing to go for the next one :)
