Sweet 16 Cake
I was asked to do a Sweet 16 cake but the weather was not on my side. The humidity caused the cake to do crazy things. =( The fondant kept sliding off the cake so I ended up covering it in buttercream and adding fondant accents. However, it was so humid the color separated from the icing. It definitely wasn't my best cake. However, I have learned new techniques that will hopefully help me when battling the humidity in the future.

Graduation Cake
I was asked to do a graduation cake for a friend of ours. (Not sure why the date on the pic says January.) Kyle didn't care what it looked like but he knew he definitely wanted fondant. So I decided to do a few books and add a graduation cap to the top. For each of the 3 book layers, I used one and a half 9x13 cakes. I alternated each layer between butter and chocolate cake. I covered each layer in white buttercream icing, then wrapped each in a different color fondant, and added page marks to look like a book. For the top layer I used one and a half 6 in round chocolate cakes and wrapped it in white fondant. I then added a top to the hat and put on Kyle's actual tassel that he wore for graduation. It was a very time consuming cake but definitely worth it for the end result.

Steelers Cake
I was asked to do a Steelers cake for a 12 year olds birthday for this weekend. He wanted a marble cake with chocolate icing. I hated the thought of doing an all brown cake, so I decided to do a base also. The base is a 9x13 marble cake covered in buttercream icing. On the sides I used the basketweave tip and on the top I used the grass tip to make it look like the football is sitting in the grass. The football is also a marble cake that I made using a shaped pan. It is covered in chocolate buttercream icing with a little bit of buttercream icing to add the details. I had trouble writing small enough with my tip to fit Steelers inside the circle of the logo, but I think it looks ok. I will be delivering the cake this morning. I think Taylor and his dad are going to like it.

I was asked to do a firefighter cake for a surprise 40th birthday. I made the rolled up hose out of chocolate cake and decorated it with buttercream icing. I made the single hose and the nozzle out of rice crispie treats and covered them in buttercream icing. I also added blue gel to look like water coming out of the hose. The helmet was made out of white cake. The birthday guy is the lieutenant of Engine 43 in Ridgway, so I decorated the helmet with buttercream frosting to look like his helmet. When everything was decorated, I used an edible black misting spray and sprayed the whole thing to make it look dirty, like it had been in a fire. Everyone loved the cake and Bill was definitely surprised.
