Hand-modelled hairdressing tools
inspired by a Debbie Brown design, I incorporated a tie, torn-up contract, rope and key
The large rock is a cake, the salmon and pebbles are made from modelling paste. The salmon is sprayed with silver lustre. The rocks are covered with piping gel.
I'd never made a cake with a ribbon and brooch before. I had great fun researching cake jewellery on the internet! This cake was for a 70th birthday for a glamorous lady who likes dancing.
I now know that I should have cut the strips on the side of the cake shorter so that the lid didn't have that fluted effect. Still, we live and learn.
My father in law loves liquorice allsorts, so I made this cake following a design from an old cake decorating book.
I made this for my son's 9th birthday. He loves the Skylanders game. The logo is an edible image and the Elixir of Life is made with modelling paste. I've taken a photo of the cake next to the portal of power from the game, so you can judge whether I did a good job.
My father-in-law rarely goes anywhere without being properly dressed in a shirt and tie. I made this for his 70th birthday.
Based on one of Debbie Brown's designs, but done in more "grown-up" colours
A 1960s flower-power theme for a friend who has a VW camper van like the one on the painted plaque in the centre.
The Paw Pilot is a character from Special Agent Oso on TV.
I used the Wilton sports ball pan but it wasn't quite the shape of a rugby ball, so still had to carve it to get the shape right.
I made this for a friend's birthday. The butterfly and bead topper was from Ebay. It was my first attempt at quilting - the front was fine but the back was not that great!
I made this for my step-mother, who loves her Kindle.
I used quilting for the sides of this cake, and made a pair of shoes and a cross from flowerpaste. The cross was made using a Patchwork Cutter.
Motorbike was made with the Patchwork cutter. A variation of my blue and white motorbike cake
I used the mountain bike Patchwork Cutter
my friend's 3 year old daughter loves pandas and also insists everything must be pink - so I had to combine the two themes in her cake
