Hungry Caterpillar (Eric Carle) Cupcake Cake
The head was 2 muffin-sized cupcakes, and I scrunched regular-sized cupcakes together for the body. I started with a base of white buttercream and used Wilton's spray on colors in blue, green, and yellow for the Eric Carle effect. I went back in a few spots and added some white frosting and sprayed back over that lightly for a lighter color effect. I cut hershey kisses in half for the feet and used twizzlers for the antenae.

50Th Pull Apart Cupcake Cake "holy Bleep!"
I made this cupcake cake for my Uncle's 50th birthday party. It was spice cake (firmed up by using it as the base in the WASC recipe), frosted with buttercream. To make the cake square and still get a flat surface, I lined up the cupcakes and piped in icing in the spaces between the cupcakes. I smoothed it using the viva method and then applied an edible image to the center of the main cake.

Dora Cupcake (Pull Apart) Cake
I was inspired by Carlawilson's similar cake on this site, and decided to try to do a version of it for my daughter's 2nd Birthday. I fit 28 WASC cupcakes on the tray and used indybaby's BC frosting to make sure it held up to the 100-degree weather (it did!). The path is crushed up graham crackers, and the figures are from the "Dora the Explorer: Where is Tico?" BusyBook, which came with all the figures you see on the cake. (They happened to be the exact scale I needed for this cake.) I used piping gel for the water, and royal icing for the flowers on the bushes.

Deathstar Birthday Cake
OK,, so I'm not in love with this cake, but I'm so proud of it because I didn't approach it the right way (ie, having a non-cake base), and somehow got this completely 100% chocolate pound cake creation to hold together. Truth be told, I had to redo the bottom half twice before it actually held together by some miracle (first two times, it cracked and completely fell apart). It's covered in marshmallow fondant, and then I cut out and handpainted the individual pieces with metallic dust mixed with lemon extract.

First Birthday Party
I made this cake for my daughter's 1st birthday, and made it to match the birthday invitations, which were purple with green polka dots. I used the white almond sour cream wedding cake recipe (delicious!) and used homemade marshmallow fondant. I achieved the deep colors by mixing gel color into the melted marshmallows before adding the powdered sugar.
