I love the rosette cake, but wanted to try a variation where I covered just the sides and left the top plain. I love the look, unfortunately I ran out of buttercream before finishing. My first basketweave cake. Gumpaste/fondant pansies. I had a bit of a mishap on the way home with a car cutting me off and had to slam on the breaks so some of the flowers came off and the basketweave got a bit smushed. I put them back on to hide the damage so it's not quite as well arranged as I preferred.
