Chic Parisienne
This was a surprise Birthday cake for Priya who just turned 18 yesterday. Sugar ruffle and poppy cake with a touch of the Parisienne with a hand painted Eiffel Tower topper (hidden behind the poppies) as Priya is leaving to go to Edinburgh University to study French this year, fitting since the red and black are very typical of French themes and moulin rouge colours. Design is based on a cake by Dillicious Cakes who graciously allowed me to replicate the ruffle and damask.

Pomander & White Ruffles
You know when you get a cake that you fight with from start to finish? This was one of them. It did not want to play ball….literally! This was my first attempt at a sugar ruffle pomander and those little suckers did not want to stay put, just when i thought they might be completely adhered to the ball, id turn it over to do the underside and the top side ruffles would fall off…and that happened like 6 times. In the end I used royal icing and left the half covered ball in the sunlight to dry quicker before attempting the under side. I was originally using piping gel. As with most of my cakes, i wing it and hope for the best. Original design credit goes to Cakes 2 Cupcakes & Yummy cupcakes and cakes who are masters of the floating tier and ruffle ball cakes.

Vintage Corsage Flowers
This is a sweet 16th birthday cake made last weekend, adorned with sugar corsage flowers and brooches. The pink tier was lustred but it doesn’t show up well on photo’s and the tiara on top was made following a tutorial by couture cakes by Rose. First attempt at corsage flowers, very much inspired by cotton & crumbs designs. :-).

Rosette Ruffles
This cake was from last year that I forgot to post. Tiers are orange cake with grand marnier syrup, orange curd and orange buttercream, lemon cake with limoncello syrup, lemon curd and lemon buttercream, red velvet with cinnamon cream cheese frosting and ferrero rocher chocolate cake. Sugar flowers of open and closed peonies, david austin roses (at the back of the bouquet), sweet peas, hydrangeas and buds. This was a first attempt at both rosette ruffles (8 hours) and horizontal pleats (4 hours)…one word for both techniques …ball ache! Pardon my french.

This Cake Was Made For A Very Special Client Of Mine She Has Ordered Many Cakes From Me In The Past And Has Referred Me To Others On Numero
This cake was made for a very special client of mine. She has ordered many cakes from me in the past and has referred me to others on numerous occaisons, so when i found out her 40th birthday was coming up, i decided to surprise her with this as a way of saying thank you. I took inspiration for the design of this cake from a gorgeous set of gold and blush pink china cups and saucers i have in my kitchen. Cake is finished with a wafer paper flower brushed with shades of gold and blush pink to give a faded vintage look.

This Cake Was A Labour Of Love Having Never Really Made This Many Flowers Over 50 Individually Wired Open Peonies Roses Lilies Orchids
This cake was a labour of love, having never really made this many flowers (over 50 individually wired open peonies, roses, lilies, orchids and hydrangeas) and never really tried dusting them either i had no idea how long it would take to cut out, vein, dry, wire and dust. And imagine my surprise when i sneazed into a kleenex and the result was purple bogies (sorry if that grossed you out) but lesson learned is wear a face mask if dusting again and dont assume you’ve got the last of it up off the floor after mopping up. About the cake, 4 tiers delivered yesterday, two tiers with a henna pattern edible lace.

Ballerina Cake
This cake is inspired by ballerinas. Tier one represents an elegant airy tutu with lots of pale pink girly ruffles which then makes way to 3 more tiers that feature ornate gilded scrolls made from gum paste, a bit like the scroll work one would see at the royal opera house where ballets are performed. The ballerina topper is also made from gumpaste and non toxic gold glitter…not sure if its called edible glitter any more. I took indoor and out door shots and couldnt decide which looked better so i decided to post the lot.

Monochrome Chic
This design is heavily based on a gorgeous cake by Heavenly Angel Cakes who made a such a lovely sophisticated cake I just had to make something similar and I hope i did her design justice with this one. Ruffles rather than flowers on the bottom tier of this one and a few diamante brooches to finish off.
