King Cake With A Twist

King Cake With A Twist

I had to do a cake for my kid's spanish class and it had to follow a traditional mexican recipe, of course I had to add my own twist to that and so I added lime zest to the pastry dough then the cream cheese filling echoed with more lime zest, lime juice, chili pepper, (just a tiny bit) and grated fresh ginger, yum. different but very good. Then I added three crowns cut with my cake cricuit and dried over cones and a mardis gras mask that I hand cut from some marbled gum paste I had left over and then painted...i did the shoe to represent a custom in mexico of children placing a shoe on their porch full of hay for the wise men to feed their animals as they pass by, all in all everyone was happy with it and we made an A!
