Birthday/vow Renewal Cake
My FIRST 3-tiered cake...my 8th cake ever...not super happy with the way the buttercream looks, but I like the flowers. Had trouble with the black fondant also...that stuff is hard to work with, and it messed up my buttercream. Oh well, live and learn. It was good practice. The cake was for a biker birthday/vow renewal. Carnations are her favorite flower. The topper is a set of ceramic salt & pepper shakers.

Sushi Birthday Cake
Made this for my sushi-loving boyfriend's birthday. "Wood" board is the cake, covered in fondant and brushed with vanilla extract/brown food color. Fondant sushi with white "rice" sprinkles (had trouble getting them to stick, sad face). Lettuce and "carrot" rose at the bottom left, and "Sushi Cat" holding the Happy Birthday sign at the bottom right. If you don't know, Sushi Cat is a fun little online game (my boyfriend likes to play from time to time). As I'm posting this, I realize I forgot his whiskers! Woops! And I thought I was done with this cake...gr. http://armorgames.com/play/5379/sushi-cat

Mini Cherry Blossom Cake
I was bored...tried out a very small tiered cake (my first, if something this teeny counts). Cake is almond with almond buttercream. Branches are buttercream, blossoms are fondant. Tier sizes are odd...1.5in, 2.5in, 4.5in--I used different sized cups around my kitchen (this was a spur-of-the-moment thing). This was a bit of a pain..trying to frost the teeny little tiers was difficult. But...pretty cute!

Usaf Daddy Cake
This is my 3rd cake ever. Cake is chocolate, filled and frosted with mocha ganache. I used the Planet Cake method for the first time...but wasn't in my own kitchen and didn't have enough time to let the ganache set properly, so it was far from perfect. But, a pregnant friend of mine wanted a cake for her boyfriend (who is in the Air Force) to celebrate his first child, and she wanted to watch and learn a little. The onesie, USAF logo and stars are fondant. I painted the words and heart on the onesie with a mixture of food color and decorating alcohol.

Rudolph Cake
This is my second cake ever...first time making 3D fondant figures. I used Wilton's pre-colored rolled fondant for Rudolph, which was a mistake because it crumbles (I will never use that again). I also learned to plan sizes and such ahead of time, as I had trouble keeping the "Bumble" and the tree from toppling over. Regardless, I think I did a decent job for a beginner!
