Bird Nest For Bird Watcher
this cake was for a man that turned 80. he likes bird watching, fav birds are cardinals and goldfinches. i struggled with making the birds (especially goldfinch) look like specific birds rather than cute basic birds, but i did my best. the nest 'filler' was toasted coconut and the outside of nest was covered with pirouettes.

Rapunzel's Tower With A 'how-To'
this cake was for my niece, inspired by a picture we found surfing the net. I originaly wanted to do a standing tower, but knowing how far i had to drive, through back roads full of potholes, we settled on this: 3 four inch cakes, sliced in half (to get semi circle) and then placed cut side down on cake board. the 'room' of the tower was 1 (6) inch cake also cut in half and placed cut side down. rolled a cone shape and stuffed with rkt. cut squares and layers for shingles. used duff's impression mat to get stone detail on tower.

Waterfall Cake
a girl i know from school asked me to mke this for her. she supplied the idea and i just brought it to life. Thank you to all of the amazing decorators on cc for some inspiriation and ideas for things to add to the focal point (waterfall). this was a very simple cake to do. covered in gree fondant like normal, then roleld out blue to less than 1/16 inch and draped it loosely on cake, leaving wrinkles in place as well as forcing a ferw extras to be made ;-)

Pirate Ship
used debbie brown's book as a guide, but made some changes.also, hubby made a template for all of the pieces to be cut, so i didnt have to worry about screwing up! that made cutting less scary and easy-peasy as my son would say! Plus, template was able to be scaled to the size we wnted. However, decided (after cake was sagging in back) to take it apart and add dowels and cake board cut to size. made a huge difference in the back. used duff's imprint matt to make wood grain effect.

Quilted Cake
baptism cake but could be used for communion, etc. i didn't have the triple diamond cutter, but tried to make this easy on myself. took the wilton measuring tape to make 1 inch marks around the cake witha toothpick.. then used a straightedge to hold againt cake and used small end of veining tool to make impression, following the guide of the straight edge. after completed that, changed angle/direction of straight edge and finished off cake to make the diamonds. overall, i was very happy with how this came out! flowers on the bow are from the wilton blossom tool.

Tiki Cake
this cake was done for a fundraising event at a tiki bar in NJ. super easy and it was a hit. rolled out green fondant just larger than height of the tier and made slits from bottom to just about the top. adhered to cake with gum glue. then used brown sugar for sand. used wilton blossom tool to quickly pop out a ton of flowers. put those at top of 'hula skirt'. added tylose to brown fondant and molded around campbell soup can. decorated tiki with buttercream icing. attached pirouette cookies to top tier, stuck two drink umbrellas into cake and ta-da! very simple but still impressive!

Dog In A Barrel Tub
this was partially my son's idea. his godmother loves dogs (she has 4 or 5). we came across one simillar, although much more detailed and more impressive, and we decided to wing it. Of course i couldnt find the picture again so that we could thank the orginal creator for the idea and inspiration. My son was a big disappointed that we didnt make x,y,z bath toy to go in the tub with the dog! It was pretty funny trying to explain that we weren't recreating all of his toys for this cake!

Princess Castle
for my niece's 4th birthday. Her mom gave me the figures (which she bought at disney store i think) and i made the cake. i used a brick impression mat to make the casle have a brick wall bu. ttercream and royal details/flowers. cake covered in fondant. Should have made the turrets myself, but ran out of time.... also shouldve takena picture of the cake when i got there... every turret had fallen over and it was a disaster. luckily i had brought all of the icing with me in a ziploc bag and was able to do repairs. next time that i have astle that needs transporting i will be making my own towers and turrets... definitely not using the wilton pieces (However they did save me some time!)

Star Wars Stormtrooper
i had nooo idea what a stormtrooper was until this cake. i have seen star wars but didnt realize this is what a storm trooper was. after making this cake i had several requests to duplicate it. however, after regoogling storm trooper masks, i found a few things i would have done differently. Especially the angle at while the mask flares out around the nose. Not bad for a first try =) The birthday boy was super excited...but i think dad was just as excited, if not more excited about this cake!
