I made this cake for a friends mothers 80th birthday. We saw a cake here on CC and thought we would give it ago. :)
I did a Harry Potter Lego cake a few weeks ago and a friend asked me to do a Star Wars Lego cake for her son's birthday this week. All I can say is Lego cakes are hard work! I was intimidated by the entire Star Wars concept but this is what I came up with. I really gave it my best shot. Her son really loved the cake and thats all that really counts. You can eat everything on the cake but the figures and every brick is a different cake with different fillings. I brushed all the black with a pearl dust and the Stars with disco dust. It really sparkled in the light.
Thanks to CC for my inspiration. This is three tiers Vanilla/hazelnut/ chocolate dream. Everything is edible but the twisted rope. This is chocolate butter cream. My biggest fear is transporting it tomorrow. I have knots in my stomach. The best part, my three year old mashing the fondant together to get the perfect colors for changing leaves! P.S. Sorry about the pics. I guess I didn't take into account the board we carried this cake outside with had foil on it so it reflected light.
Wanted to give our missionaries a surprise dessert when they came over. :) simple and yummy. Chocolate cake with double whipped chocolate center.
So, not really Halloween but it is a Fall cake. I wanted to try something knew and a few techniques. I used to bunt cakes one upside down on the other to get the shape of the pumpkin. I am self taught or I should say YouTube taught. :) I tried a really thin fondant on this cake which would be fine if you serve right away because the next day it started showing signs of cracking. I also painted my fondant while it was on the cake which was a different approach. Tip: use vodka not water to add to your color to brush on the cake. It evaporates quickly and doesn't crack the cake. Eh.. a practice cake and fun!
I made this on a day when I had nothing to do with my three year old daughter. She loves helping me make cake because she gets to crack the eggs and play with fondant. Who needs play dough? LOL. The idea is here and can be improved on. We did this in a few short hours but had a lot of fun. The toys on the cake were from her toy collection but would normally be cookies or gum paste.
I love this cake. Its simple and clean. Whenever I do a kids cake I always try to do a cookie topper to make it extra special.
This isn't my first fondant cake but was my first Lego cake for a little boy. His mom said he adored Harry Potter and so this is what I came up with.
