Bear Cake
I made this bear cake just for fun... it is iced in buttercream with MMF accents. I should have done a smaller star tip; I think it would have looked better... but it would have taken longer, which is why I didn't. ;) I also kind of liked the way he looked before the "fur," so I uploaded a picture of that. I sort of wish I had left him smooth and just covered him in fondant... maybe next time! I couldn't get a good picture of "after fur" without the buttercream looking soft and gooey and the bear looking weird. But oh well, here he is. :)

Gymbo The Clown Cake
I made this cake for a friend's son who was having a birthday party at Gymboree. It was the biggest cake I've ever made: a 3-layer 12x18 cake. The baking took forever and so did the fondant Gymbo, but the rest was easy. To make Gymbo, I printed out a picture of him I found online, then cut it up by color (if that makes sense!). I traced the pieces onto the different colors of fondant, cut them out, and then pieced Gymbo together like a puzzle.

Sumo Cake
A friend's son was having a sumo wrestling party, where you rent those blow-up suits and the kids "fight" on a mat in the backyard. She asked if I could make a cake to go with the theme, so I did. :) The "grass" is buttercream with a star tip, and the wrestlers, the wrestling mat, and the letters are MMF.

Toy Story Cake
Here is another Toy Story cake I made for my kids, all fondant... the headboard was frusterating but the rest was easy to make. If I did it again, I would have made the headboard a few days before so it had time to get hard before attaching it. As it was, I had to attach it at the last minute and it didn't want to stay up. I had to cut it down from how tall it was originally and let it lean against the cake, which was not the way I wanted to do it. I also had to add chunks of fondant at it's corners to keep it together. The bedposts were fondant-covered pretzel rods, but if I had allowed myself more time for it to harden, I probably could have made the headboard completely out of fondant and I think it would have stood up by itself and would not have had to have been so "chunky". The board was covered in wood-patterned contact paper; it was the only kind I could find or I would have liked it to be darker wood, like in Andy's bedroom in the movie. Like I said though, this cake was simple to make, especially because the blanket could just drape there without having to perfectly cover the cake. Right before the cake was served I just placed the plastic toys and it was all set.

Veggietales Cake
I made this cake for my boys' birthday. Bob (the tomato) was a round pan and Larry was a rectangle that I cut into a cucumber-like shape. I used a star tip to decorate them with buttercream icing; their eyes, nose, and mouth are fondant. From making this cake, I learned that it takes a LOT of dye to get buttercream red!

Very Hungry Caterpillar Cupcake Train
I made these cupcakes for my son's preschool class. The body is buttercream icing with a star tip, and then I sprinkled light green sugar crystals over that. The head is buttercream, while the eyes and nose are fondant , and the antennae are fondant over toothpicks. The legs are also fondant. I used dark brown jimmies for the hairs on the caterpillars back. After the picture was taken, I actually added another cupcake on the top to round him out a little better.
