This Is A Monster High Cake For A 10 Year Olds Birthday The Mother Wanted 2 New Dolls Included In The Design As Well I Used Richard Rus
This is a Monster High cake for a 10-year old's birthday. The mother wanted 2 new dolls included in the design as well. I used Richard Ruskell's Topsy Turvy cake class on Craftsy to do the design. The whole thing was covered in about a pound of disco dust!

Sprinkles Cake
I've seen these on Pinterest and really wanted to try one. It was super easy. I used a method I found here where you ice only the sides of the tier, then roll the whole thing in nonpareils spread on a cookie sheet. It worked perfectly with a minimum of mess! I would definitely do that again. Thanks to whoever suggested that!

Girly Ruffle Birthday Cake
This cake was my own personal nightmare. It was my first time using Swiss Buttercream, which I liked, but did not have enough of. It used a TON of buttercream. You can tell in the join between the lower and middle tier, it looks funny because I was trying to stretch what buttercream I had left. In my design I did not account for the fact that the top tier would end up the same width as the middle, smooth tier, so I think that looks a little funny. The whole thing did not survive transportation anyway, so it didn't matter in the end. This was my first delivery disaster, but luckily it was a free cake for a good friend's birthday and she didn't mind. And they still ate what was left.

Skateboard
The board itself is carved cake. The wheel supports and wheels are RCT and the rods are dowels. The skull and name are gumpaste. I wanted it to look used and beat up so it's been dirtied up with Wilton's brown Color Dust. The sides were supposed to be black, but as I don't have an airbrush I was stuck using the Color Mist sprays, and the black didn't work very well. Someday I will get an airbrush!

Rainbow Zebra
Both tiers were covered in fondant, and the lower tier was white then sprayed with Wilton Color Mists (I don't have an airbrush). The interior was also a rainbow zebra stripe. I used the WASC cake and dyed it 8 different colors, then striped it as I was pouring the batter. Everyone loved it! The H, stars, and bow are gumpaste.

Cryptid Cake
The birthday boy is into cryptids, or creatures that may or may not exist like Bigfoot, Nessie, etc. Since his 6 favs all live in very different habitats (forest, underwater, mountaintops) I was really challenged with figuring out how to represent them all on one cake. Finally came up with Polaroids in an album, and problem solved! My local cake shop printed the pics for me and they are on gumpaste. The rest is just fondant. This was a simple solution and an easy cake. It slightly pokes fun at him without being direspectful.

A Different Kind Of Topsy Turvy
I took Richard Ruskell's Topsy Turvy cake class available on craftsy.com. It's surprisingly sturdy, that thing did not move an inch during transport. I highly recommend the class. The decoration is a nautical theme with sailing bears. I cheated and used goldfish crackers to save time.

King Tut Wedding Cake
This unusual couple wanted something really different for their Egyptian-themed wedding. The base is King Tut, half cake and half styrofoam (they didn't require a lot of servings but wanted a huge cake). I wrote their names down the front of the legs in heiroglyphics. The bride still wanted a somewhat traditional cake, so the compromise was that Tut would be holding a small cake stand with a more traditional BC tiered cake on top. The toppers are Egyptian Legos. The whole thing was 2 feet long, 1 foot wide, and about 1 1/2 feet tall. Weirdly, Tut went together easily but I had a terrible time with the simple BC cake!

Allen Field House
This is a groom's cake of Allen Field House, where the KU Jayhawks play. The bride requested BC, but there is fondant for the court, the Jayhawk, the windows, and the letters. The seat colors are important in the Field House, so we chose not to fill the stadium and instead just have the bride & groom heads. The back says "Beware the Phog" and "Go KU".

Star Wars Death Star Birthday Cake
I love this one! This was a Death Star cake for a boy's 8th birthday. The laser is a green candle so he can blow it out. The figures and ships are his toys and non-edible. The circle in the front is foam core covered with fondant and the script is piped. The star background is white mixed with black and a tiny bit of brown fondant. I added streaks of silver lusterdust and handpainted stars to add to the effect.

90Th Birthday Quilt Cake
This was a quilt cake for a woman's 90th birthday. The cakes are buttercream and the quilts and decorations are fondant. I used real quilt patterns, the red is Log Cabin and the blue is Friendship Star. The family requested all the words and bright colors, but the rest was my design. Each section is individually "quilted". The topper is made of foam (didn't have time for gumpaste to dry), covered in icing. I wasn't too happy with how it turned out, I thought it looked a little like Dr. Seuss. I was very happy with the rest of the cake. Several people asked me why I put real fabric on a cake! .

Wheel Of Fortune Cake
This is a giant rice krispy treat of the Wheel of Fortune wheel for my friend's birthday (it's her favorite TV show). We used her favorite color combo, bright pink and green, and the letters around the side spell out (incompletely) "Happy Birthday Holly". We used sucker sticks around the edges, and it's on a turntable so you can really spin it. She loved it!
