Lara & Simon's Cakes

Southern Comfort Red Velvet with Cream Cheese Buttercream, and fondant panels decorated with Red and black royal icing in the design from the invitation, hand painted through a hand-made stencil, the flowers are red morning glories, the separator is four ice cream soda glasses with red LED battery operated candles inside, the topper is a pastillage round plaque with the design from the save-the-date card--a full tropical moon with couple kissing and palm trees, all sitting on a Wilon spiral cake stand painted with glossy black appliance paint, and red battery op. LED candles in the corners. Groom's cake is a Dr. Who Tardis, complete with flashing blue light on top. The cake is layers of pineapple upside down cake stacked and covered with blue buttercream.

Tie-Dye Wedding Cake

Four stacked tiers of red velvet cake with cream cheese buttercream and royal icing flowers and peace signs colored with icing gel/vodka paint. The wedding was outdoors at a campground in the middle of August and the temp was about 90deg with 90% humidity. They added a hippie topper later. We drove down about a three mile rutted dirt road, the bottom layer on the floor in the back, and the top three already stacked held in my hands to keep it from falling over--there were yellow jackets flying all around the cake and us when we were setting up, and we had to cover the whole cake with a plastic storage tub and pile ice around it to keep it from melting. The groom took the tub off when it was time, and managed to knock the top tier right off! They loved it anyway!

Summer Barbecue Cake

Marble sheet cake (my sister's secret flavors) buttercream charcoal and grill, hamburgers made from brownies with gumpaste cheese, hot dogs are pretzel rods dipped in melted butterscotch chips, grill marks done with black icing gel and vodka "paint". Hot coals are grey powdered sugar sprinkled generously over buttercream lumps, some of which are painted with red luster dust. Flames are royal icing, colored with icing gel/vodka paint.
