Piggy Pops
Piggy Pops! My first attempt at cakepops, I loved making these :) I used the bakepops pan for the balls, dipped in regular eating chocolate with a little bit of Kremelta shortening mixed in to thin it. The Wilton candy melts are difficult/expensive to buy here, real chocolate is cheaper/easier to get. The snouts etc are made from a mixture of modelling chocolate and fondant. I struggled a bit with the chocolate, how do you get a nice finish at the end? I dipped, swirled, and tapped. But the excess was still running off when the chocolate started to set, so at the back of some of them it's not as nice and smooth as it should be. Maybe I need thinner chocolate....? Any tips on getting a perfect finish greatly appreciated!

Wee Groomsman
My lovely friend NIki took pity on my people modelling skills and showed me how she does her basic groomsmen. I learned so much form her showing me this, and it was so fun to do it with someone else. I said to her I probably wasn't going to put it up here on CC, but I keep looking at him and realised he's so darn cute and I'm proud of him, so here he is. Thanks Niki, I can't wait to try making another figurine!

Snowman Christmas Cake
#4 charity cake, the last one! I'm rather fond of this little guy :) Baked him in three bowls, two tiny little ones for the head, one larger one for the body. He's still only about 4" though, he's sitting on a board the same size as the three 4" square cakes. The arms are made out of some sweets called spaceman sticks we had as kids, they used to look like cigarettes back then though!

Striped Christmas Tree Cake
I saw this design from Tortentante last Christmas and fell in love with it. (Thank you Tortentante for the tutorial on your blog!) This 4" cake is for charity, the first of four. Wow, square cakes are fiddly, especially with no buttercream underneath! I had to use almond sugarpaste as it turns out marzipan is pretty hard to come by here in NZ, interesting. Hopefully I'll have time to try making my own soon.

'piece Of Cake' Cake
Our Niece Rosie turned 13 today, so I tried to make her a cake that was not too childish, but not too grown-up. On the right hand on the board is her name, and a little pie, same as last year ('cos her nickname is Rosie-Pie). On the left there are 13 little roses holding the wee candles. I'm not 100% certain on this, but I think the slice design is originally from Planet Cake, though I used lilo_taart's fabulous design.

Sweet & Simple
My friend is making her own wedding cupcakes, but wanted a 'cutting cake' for the ceremony. She choose the recipe, it's white chocolate mud, with white chocolate buttercream, and white chocolate fondant. I also made her a four inch 'mini me' version to pop in her freezer for their first anniversary (2nd pic). Her colours are black and silver, so she chose to keep the cake drum uncovered. Design from the talented Vanessa Iti.

You Put The Lime In The Coconut...
Lime cuppies, filled with lime curd, topped with coconut flavoured cream cheese icing, and sprinkled with green coconut. What's that weird looking flower on it you ask? Oh, that's the Ear flower, native to these parts. Specifically to my kitchen actually. My hubby wanted ear toppers.... he's an odd one at times! I had to make a mold for them myself as I could't buy one.

Peach Cakes
These are a take on the italian brioche 'Pesche dolci di pasta brioche' , imagenthatnj put me onto them, and I fell in love at first sight. Bigredkitchen made them in cake, so I wanted to give it a go as well, as I had been wanting to try sky high's peach melba cake, and it seemed like a good recipe to try it with. These little cakes are supposed to look like peaches, but they're not as convincing as I'd hoped they would be! I foolishly chose a very soft cake (a cream cake), and it was SO difficult to work with, I coudn't get the icing to behave without ripping the cake. And every time I picked one up I seemed to break it. There were supposed to be six! Oh well, maybe I'll do better next time :)

Safari Cake
For my son's 2nd birthday, to take to his creche. As soon as I saw this design (from The Whimsical Bakehouse) I loved it. The animals are all made of piped chocolate. The cake is covered in buttercream. I made forty animals, so every child at creche could have one each... took ages! But I loved doing it, and chocolate is so much fun to work with.
