Wizard Of Oz
This cake was created for the season closing of the North American tour of the Broadway production of The Wizard of Oz. Because it was for a stage production, I felt it needed to have a stage present in the design. I hand-painted the scenery and sculpted the accompanying decorations from both modeling chocolate and gumpaste. The cake was french vanilla with a dark chocolate ganache filling and vanilla buttercream icing under fondant. It was meant to serve 50-55 people, but I had to go a bit bigger to best achieve my vision.

My entry into the 2011 Connecticut Cake Competition. So that the looked as though it's on it's wheels not on a solid block, the base is a 2 level construct with MDF, plywood and deck brackets. I achieved the "ground clearance" i was looking for. The show theme was a touch of the south, thus the modeling chocolate & gumpaste "accessories"... cowboy hat, hay bales, bushel basket of peaches, bandana. The idea of the truck itself was born of the idea that next to his family, a southern guy's most prized possession is his truck. I won 1st place in the Intermediate Special Occasion category!
