First Topsy Turvy
Topsy Turvy cake made for my niece's 3rd birthday. Not only is this only the second cake I've ever made, it's my first Topsy Turvy. I was pretty proud of how it came out when I first assembled it at my shop, but the mistakes I made became quite obvious once I tried to transport it home. When I carved out the space for the next tier to sit on the bottom, I didn't get it perfectly level and I didn't have a "lip" all the way around so it slid as I drove home (even with a central dowel going through the whole cake). This cake was made with the understanding that it was practice and for learning experience...boy did I ever learn a thing or two! For next time: I will make sure everything is level before assembling and I will not do those little "balls" around the base again (tedious and they fell all over the place). The ribbon roses, however, I am totally in love with. Oh, and I won't premake decorations to place on the cake again - hardened flowers/decor doesn't like to stick on the cake.

Sil Birthday Cake
Picture of the mini-cake (only 6 1/2" tall) I made for my sister-in-law's birthday. This is my first ever layered/stacked cake. I used an embossing mat on the bottom and top tiers and hand painted the details. The yellow came out nice, but the green not so much because of my unsteady hand.
