Cupcake Birthday Cake
8" and 6" strawberry cake with buttercream filling and icing (Extra Special Buttercream recipe from CC). Cupcake on top is also cake covered in fondant with fondant candle. The colors were made to match the birthday girl's polka dot t-shirt, bloomers and tutu. Her bloomers also had big pink ribbons on the bottom. Cake was inspired by SueB.

Purple Swirls And Flower
A random cake a made for practice - lemon cake with fresh lemon juice and zest; covered in raspberry-lemon buttercream (which is why there is a pinkish tint). I couldn't get the icing to crust completely so it was hard to smooth. I need to work on my piping, too! This is my first time doing swirls/lots of piping. I like my flower though!

Punk Rock Birthday Cake
Chocolate cake with cream cheese filling and vanilla buttercream icing with fondant accents. I had a lot of trouble with this cake - the CC filling was too thin and the top cake wanted to slide off. And I did 1/2 butter 1/2 Crisco for the buttercream for a better taste and it kept wanting to melt and wouldn't crust like normal BC. Boo :( I'm still new to cake decorating so another lesson learned! And I should've done pink BC with black accents...I hope the black didn't dye their teeth! Oops! The client was happy though!

Polka Dot Birthday Cake
Red, white and black polka dot cake for my good friend, Aimee (hence the "A" on top). It's a fudgy Devil's Food cake with peanut butter buttercream filling (recipe from on here) and chocolate buttercream icing. All the decorations are fondant. The "A" on top is painted with a silver glitter dust. I don't really like how the top came out but oh well - I'm still learning!

Batman Birthday Cake
This cake was made for a friend of mine's son - he was turning 5 and was having a Batman themed party. She didn't want anything super dark and black so with the help of the CC galleries, I got the idea for the colors of this cake. The top tier is a 2 layer oval yellow cake with chocolate BC and the bottom tier is an 8" chocolate cake with chocolate BC and the whole thing is iced in vanilla BC. This was my first "client" (paid) cake and my first stacking cake and I learned A LOT of lessons. Everything (baking/decorating) was done in 5 1/2 hours due to a cake baking incident the day before (except the fondant which was done earlier in the week). I am overall very happy with it but I see where I can improve next time! Any comments/critiques/advice are welcome!
