Tana's Topsy Turvy
I ran out of time on this cake and had to put the fondant on while the cake was really cold. Then I airbrushed the layers. For some reason the bottom layer started to sweat really badly and I couldn't get the purple dots to stick; they kept sliding off. I just stuck a toothpick in the middle of them to hold them in place and covered that with a coordinating dot of buttercream. I told the client about the toothpicks and she made sure they were taken out when the cake was cut. This is my second topsy cake. I don't really like doing them.

Tvs And Tatas.
This cake was really fun to do. It was for a man who told his wife he wanted a cake of his two favorite things; TVs and TaTas. So that's what she ordered! She wanted to incorporate Ga football on it too, so I made the girl wearing a Ga bikini. I also decided to go with an old school tv because it was more recognizable. Modern tvs just look like picture frames. :) All buttercream except for the girl and the controls.

Curly Cake
I've been learning how to work with gumpaste for the past week and this is probably the third or fourth cake on which I've used it. This was by far the hardest cake I've done with it. For some reason my royal icing wouldn't set and the 2 kept slipping. Also my gumpaste curls kept breaking. Ugh! Thankfully I had made extras so I was still able to get the cake done. The icing and dots are buttercream, the loops and curls and 2 are gumpaste.

My camera didn't seem able to take a good picture of this cake; the colors are all washed out. Shoes and lei are made of gumpaste. I strung the flowers onto dental floss but next time I do it I think I'll put a small fondant bead in between each flower. Otherwise, I'm happy with this cake experiment. :)

Omg
This cake was the first time I'd decided to enter a contest. I'm a self taught decorator all the way and I've learned everything through trial and error, the latter being a BIG part of my journey. This cake was going so well and then I turned my back to get more icing and SPLAT. His head fell off! After a minute or two of wondering what to do, I decided to just scrape off the old head and bake a new one. Lesson learned: too much icing on a sphere shaped cake WILL make it fall apart. On the second one I didn't do a dirty icing layer and he held up just fine.

Baby Cake
There seems to be a lot of confusion over this cake. I posted this under "disasters" because most everyone who saw it (myself included) thought it looked very funereal. It was meant as something sweet for a new mother's birthday but came across as sort of creepy. The customer loved it, though, and I'm hoping his wife did too. :) Since I've gotten the comments below I decided to move this picture into another gallery but I'm not sure which one. Any suggestions? This is a cookie cake with cupcake baby doll decorated with buttercream frosting.

Horse Cake
This is a 3d sheet cake I did for a little girl's birthday. It's fully edible and mostly buttercream. I cut the horse's torso and head from a sheet cake and modeled the legs with fondant. The airbrushing was more of a cocoa color with black accents but it darkened pretty quickly. Next time I know to make it lighter than I want the color to actually be.

Tie Dye Cake
This was for my dad's 50th birthday. My mom had chosen a 60's theme for the party and mostly everyone showed up in tie dyed shirts. I decided to try out the rainbow cake method I'd seen on YouTube with this cake and it worked really well. Everyone was really surprised when they cut the cake open. No one wanted the top layer chocolate cake; they all wanted to try the rainbow cake. :)
