A Slice Of Cake For Steph
I've wanted to make one of these cakes for a long time, they look so fun! When my daughter asked me to make a birthday cake for her best friend, it was the perfect opportunity. Turns out it was as fun to make as it looks. Cake is Swiss Mocha with Hazelnut BC with all fondant decor. TFL!

Cat's 25Th
This was my daughter's birthday cake. Fondant covered with fondant vines and mini gumpaste calla lillies. Cake is two 6" tiers. Once it was stacked, with the 8" tall cake, plus another couple of inches of flowers and the stand it stood pretty tall, over a foot, for a little cake. I really like the look of two tiers of the same size. Cake was Swiss Mocha with Hazelnut Buttercream

Peggy Sue
This was my entry in the 2011 Colorado State Fair Themed Cake Decorating Contest. the theme was the Fabulous Fifties. I used the form cake recipe for the base and skirt. The skirt was baked in a bowl and then carved to enhance the shape. The dance floor in individually cut and laid squares of fondant. The poodle on her skirt is part fondant cut out and partly piped in RI. Her slip is from the edge of a lace mold I made in a class. I won 2nd place for her.

Rancher's Wedding Cake
This cake was done for a rancher's wedding. Piping all that hay just abut killed me. My hand hurt for a week. Hay is 4 shades of gold BC applied with various tips. Hat is carved and covered in fondant and placed on top of fondant/gumpaste brim. Gumpaste flowers modeled after the bride's bouquet are scattered on and around the hay bale; lisianthus, ranunculus, tulip and rose. Cake is 4" of styrofoam, 4" of white chocolate cake with fudge frosting and 4" of chocolate cake with very vanilla BC. Hat is chocolate cake with fudge frosting. I was inspired by the many beautiful hay bales and cowboy hats here and much thanks to the forum for help and feedback on the ranunculus. TFL!

Ranunculus, Which?
I just need 1 of these flowers for a cake I'm doing but can't decide which I like best. Ranunculus A, B or C? EDIT 7/11/11...I added a fourth flower that I decided to do...while I don't think it's as pretty as the other ones, I do think it's more realistic so I'll probably use it. It's still a work in progress, though, it's not dusted or steamed yet.

First Peony...had To Make A Cake To Go With It
I just bought a peony cutter set and couldn't wait to try them. The cake (dummy) was inspired by a skirt I saw in a summer clothes spread in Glamour magazine. I also used up some of the orange Fondarific that I won in a contest and that's been sitting on a shelf since February. Coincidently, it's my out-of-state SIL's birthday so I posted it on facebook as a "virtual" birthday cake for her. TFL!

I made this for a friend who got married abroad. She just saw the picture. She was born in Sweden, moved the the US as a child, recently moved to Italy to join her fiance, and will be going to live in Germany in June. Special thanks to Ursula40, FrancescaTranslator and Bunda for the language help. The cake reads "I do" in all 4 languages; my writing still needs work, but not too bad as it's the first time I've done it and it's on the side. It's a dummy cake, covered in fondant with royal icing details; flowers are all gumpaste. She loved it.

Breaking Out In Time For Easter
I was inspired to make this by a ceramic doo-dad I saw in a store. Cake is nothing fancy as there'll be lots of Greek desserts at the table. It's meant to be more of a centerpiece thus, vanilla cake with vanilla BC. The eggshell pieces are fondant and the down is piped BC using a grass tip. Wings, eyes, beak are gumpaste/fondant. Overall, very fun to do...hopefully it'll stay upright until tomorrow! TFL and Happy Easter!

71St Birthday
This was for my mother's 71st birthday. Cake is 3 layers of chocolate cake with pastry cream filling. It was the first time I used any of the petal pans I got for Christmas. Fondant covered with BC details and gumpaste flowers. My intent was to have it on our table at the restaurant when we took her out to dinner but the place wouldn't allow "outside" food (really? you won't let me brng my mother's birthday cake? made by her daughter?) so except for the pictures, only 3 people saw this cake!

My Own Birthday Cake
This was my own birthday cake last year. Bottom 8" tier a dummy, 6" tier lemon raspberry marble cake with raspberry bc. Fondant covered; lines (or vines or branches, whatever they are) were done with an extruder. Dots are fondant/gumpaste mix and applied randomly, including the pile of dots on top. I was inspired by some note cards.

Lucy The Ladybug
This was my entry in the Adult Intermediate Celebration Cakes category in the Sweet Times in the Rockies Show. It won 1st place for that category. I used the "form cake" recipe to make the cakes for the petal bases, the center and Lucy's body. Petals are layered, ruffled fondant, center is RI. TFL!

In Love With Lavender
The inspiration for this cake started with Eric Lanlard's Lavender Fields mini cakes and grew from there. Cake is a styrofoam dummy covered in fondant wih a mix of fondant, RI and gumpaste decorations. The lavender on top is RI piped onto floral wire. This was my Tiered Cake entry in the Sweet Times in the Rockies show in Denver. I won 1st place in the tiered cakes category and Best in Division (Intermediate Adult). I also got a "Special Award", shout out kind of thing at the ceremony from the judges for the hydrangea at the base for "Best Flower"! I was so happy! TFL!

Grace And Cody
The biggest cake I've ever made. One of the most stressful days of my life. I'm not read to handle cakes of this magnitude. 5 tiers, 14,12,10, 8, 6 covered in fondant with fondant and buttercream accents and gumpaste lilies. Cake is white chocolate w/ raspberry filling and raspberry bc and lemon raspberry marble with raspberry filling and vanilla bc. The bride hadn't seen the cake when I left but the guests were totally wowed. After a roller coaster ride of emotions and stress all day I eneded up really happy with it. The bride and I were both inspired by white7's beautiful cake designs!TFL!

Kelly Is Older Than...
This was for a friend's 40th birthday. It's my twist on an idea from a cake posted by cvalentin. Spin the arrow and guess if Kelly is older than what you landed on. Spice cake with cinnamon BC decorated in fondant. The arrow was made of gumpaste/fondant but I didn't give it enough time to dry and the ends were drooping so I added a strip of card stock under it. The arrow was resting on a small stack of fondant cutouts and attached with a (clean!) corsage pin so it spun really well. It was a fun cake to make and everyone got a kick out of it. TFL!

Haunted
I did this cake at a Michael's Challenge. We could have it pre-iced and could make up to 50% ot the decor in advance. We had 1 1/2 hours to decorate on site. It was very fun, we had customers in and out watching. The "story" of this cake is that a trick or treater was walking past the pumpkin patch and was frightened and ran away, dropping her hat, broom and trick or treat bag. I was so happy with how it came out and would only change 1 thing if I could (would put the moon behind the tree). The best part? I won 1st place!

Anne's Cake
I made this for a friend who recently commemorated a milestone birthday with a hot air ballon ride during our local Balloon Festival. I've wanted to start doing more piping and this cake fit the bill. Simple piping is still practice right? Thanks to Alery for the inspiration. Cake is chocolate with very vanilla buttercream covered in fondant; except for the little flowers, all buttercream decoration. TFL!

Taylor's Birthday
I was strongly inspired by two cakes here on CC when I was doing this one. Thanks to 19Steph79 for the idea for the border. Its my new favorite! Unfortunately,I didnt save the picture of the cake with the flower on it so I cant say thanksmy apologies! The cake itself is lemon raspberry marble with lemon pastry cream filling and raspberry buttercream. Covered in fondant and fondant accents except for the border.
