I was challenged - & accepted the challenge! Vanilla cupcakes with maple buttercream & a sprinkling of bacon for garnish.
A birthday cake for a friend's grandma. Her favorite flower is the stargazer lily. I added a couple of roses for accent.

They had a themed going away party. One guess what it was!
I decided to give the free form roses (from that Youtube video!) a try. Not bad for a first time. Everything's fondant.

My final cake. I was pleasantly surprised with how well it came together.
Designed by my daughter. I assisted.
This is a French vanilla cake with lemon pudding filling and raspberry lemonade frosting. I made it for practice and to take to a play rehersal since one of my castmates requested to be a "guinea pig." Just a little take on the Course 2 finale cake, incorporating Course 1 & 2 lessons.
I had a great time making this cake! I'm glad I chose to tint the frosting for the basketweave/rope. It's a strawberry cake with buttercream filling.
I made this for the kids' version of Alice in Wonderland, by a local community theatre group that I'm in. Devil's food cake with chocolate buttercream filling and buttercream frosting/roses.
Since it was my birthday, my final cake for course 1 was my birthday cake. Golden yellow cake with homemade chocolate buttercream. Smoothest job yet!
Ok, my daughter is the one who wanted me to make it (she just turned 8). I followed her directions explicitly. My payment? A huge hug and kiss, and a, "Mommy, you're an artist!"
Decorated in class. My first official "class cake." I chickened out on the rainbow and did flowers with cookie cutters instead. Getting a little better with the stars and shells. My instructor helped me with smoothing. I still have a way to go!
Since it was a friend's birthday, I decided to practice my techniques that I learned in the first class. I improvised on the leaves and "flowers," making big stars instead. It's a devil's food cake with chocolate buttercream filling and buttercream icing/decorations.
