Actually An 'elopement' Cake
One of the girls at work bakes, but doesn't decorate, so she brought me the cake and asked me to pretty it up. (A coworker got married very quietly on her holidays.) It was very difficult, as it was a chocolate cake and there were a lot of crumbs in the white icing. She had also split the layer herself, and basted them with a liqueur, then just slipped foil between the layers and stacked it all back up in the pan and wrapped it in foil. It was a bit of a mess to work with, actually.

Ribbons And Lace
This was a very easy cake to do. There is very little icing technique involved, because the lace and ribbon really make the cake. The bride didn't want a traditional cake topper, but she also didn't give me any ideas for what she wanted instead. I just happened to be in a dollar store and found the stained glass tealight, just as I was giving up hope of ever having an idea. I used a battery operated 'candle' in it, and it looked very nice. (The real flame looked nicer, but wasn't as safe.)
