Batman Guards Gotham City
This cake was a lot of fun and equaly as troubling, but still tons of fun. I got my idea from lots of other cake designers here at cake central and wanted to try my hand at it for my Nephews 5th Birthday. 1st I made the buildings out of fondant and was not impressed by the quality of it, I love MMF but not for making standing buildings. Then I tried my hand at color flow like so many other people have, my 1st attempt? a disaster, my 2nd attempt? after changing slightly the color flow technique based on my own knowldege, it ws perfect the buildings looked great, I made them in Grey with black windows and they just looked great. . .what happened you ask? well I gotta tell you color flow should not be put in the fridge to store after its made, byt the time I took them out of the fridge to take them to my isters house, the cold had caused them to shatter to pieces. . . the day before party!!!! so what did I do? I made the building out of chocloate, it was the only thing I knew I could do that would freeze within minutes, I have a more extensive knowldege of chocolates and am more comfortable working with it for now since I have been making things with chocolate for a few years, so I put some wax paper in the freezer on a cookie sheet, in the meantime I melted some chocolate and poured it into a plastic squeeze bottle, I took the wax paper out of the freeze, this made it easier to outline buildings, since the wax paper was cold I knew as soon as the chocolate would touch the paper it would harden, making it easy to outline without worrying about the chocolate running. So I outlines some building I had drawn on a sheet of paper that I placed underneath the wax. I make 11 buildings (4 ata time), after about 5 minutes I pulled them out of the freezer and placed them on a glass dish and put them in the fridge, then when I had made all the buildings, I melted some yellow chocolate and painted windows using a small decorating brush. Thanks for looking. PS the cake was Hershey chocolate cake with oreo cookie filling. . . .the entire cake was gone!!!
