My baby boy's 2nd birthday cake! He LOVES anything with wheels, so I naturally had to do a Cars theme birthday. He couldn't wait to get the cars from the top of this cake! It is just a 3 layer sheet cake, iced in buttercream green grass and black 2 racetrack. Fondant checkerboard tiles around the edge of the cake. There are also a few edible rock candies on there. The cars are toys, purchased at Walmart. It was a ton of fun to make!
For my cousin's little girl, who has been obsessed with dolphins since she got to swim with one earlier in the year. I took a 4 layer sheet cake and carved the top two layers int othe five. Iced in buttercream with handmade MMF decorations. A few sugar shells were purchased by the mom. MMF dolphins on top. It was a lot of fun!
For a super girly-girl who was turning 12, loves bright colors and the Jonas Brothers.. so we pulled it all into one design. All iced in buttercream with fondant details. This was my FIRST attemt at zebra stripes, and I was super pleased with the outcome. The middle tier has the Jonas Brothers logo on it, but it is hard to see. The top has music notes, per request of the birthday girl. Topped with a fondant bow, with real white ribbon for texture. It was a huge hit at the party!
Tech groom's cake. Iced in buttercream, but the Tech design is done in MMF. I was nervous about getting all of the lines so straight and perfect, but I was really pleased with the result. The fun part was that the cake was red velvet, to go with the Red Raiders. :)
Flower basket on top of a sheet cake for one of our retiring teachers. Covered in buttercream, but flowers are all MMF with some buttercream drop flowers. It was a big hit at school.
A small Cat in the Hat cake I made for an auction. It was about a foot tall, covered in MMF. It was for a Relay for Life auction, and the theme was about more birthdays.. so I made it with a birthday candle on top.
Toy Story bed for my cousin's little boy's 3rd birthday! Covered in a fondant blanket with fondant toy balls and headboard. The figures were provided by my cousin. It was a huge hit at the party!
This was for a man's 50th birthday cake. His wife wanted a surprise cake, but didn't know what she wanted.. but ended up deciding she wanted an airplane since her hubby flies them for fun. All three tiers are covered and decorated in MMF, and the airplane is made from rice crispies, covered in fondant. I had never built a structure like the airplane, so it was definitely a learning experience.
Lots of fondant! A girl sent me a picture of a cake that she wanted me to recreate, so this was my end result. Wish I could post the original to show you how close it was. All fondant decorations and figures. I was very fun and colorful. Inside cake was strawberry :)
Safari animal for a fellow teacher's son's first birthday! She loves the jungle animals, especially giraffes. Inside was marble cake, covered in blue and green BC icing. Decorations and animals are MMF. This was my first ever attempt at making animals, so it was a lot of fun.
Girly skull cake for a preteen who was turning 12. She loves lime green, pink, and black. Cake was chocolate with BC icing in pink and black. MMF decorations. Skull and rolled roses are MMF. It was a fun cake to make!
Lingerie cake for my cousin's friend's bachelorette party. All BC designs with fondant roll-up roses.
Map of Ireland for the sweetest lady who turned 85 years old. All BC icing details. Wish I had gotten a pic of the inside, because it was three layers of cake colored green, white, and gold to match the Irish flag. There is a tiny yellow flower on it to mark the city that she is from in Ireland. They said it tasted wonderful and was a HUGE hit at their party!
Mickey Mouse Club type, fun MMF designs on side. Shapes and letter painted with luster dust. It was a fun cake to make.
Baby shower cake for my cousin. She wanted pink, purple, and flowers. I took the flower idea and added buttons to the center of the flowers. I am working on figuring out how to get smooth BC, so suggestions are welcome. The BC was a light lavender, and decorations are MMF with luster dust.
For another teacher-friend's daughter. They had found a 3-tier version of this, and I condensed it into two. It was fun and sassy. It was my first attempt at the topsy-turvy sort of cake, so it is only slightly unlevel. I was afraid of getting in over my head. It turned out pretty cute, though. T
A fellow teacher was getting remarried and wanted something fun and untraditional. Thanks to another CC member's picture for inspiration, we decided on this one. Her wedding was fall-themed, so the brown and colors of the beautiful apples, pears, and cranberries fit in well. All done in chocolate BC, middle tier was vanilla cake and top and bottom were chocolate. The BD was purposely not smoothed out to give it more of a rustic look. Thanks for looking!
MMF covered with MMF decorations. One of our first grade teachers ordered it for one of their birthdays as a surprise. I can't wait to take it to her at school tomorrow! This is only my 4th or 5th big cake like this, so it is a work in progress. I am also learning how to make bows, so I know that it needs some work. Any suggestions would be welcomed! This was for a teacher friend's daughter's 11th birthday. Her favorite colors are hot pink and brown, so this is what I came up with. After taking this pic I fixed the K to where the sticks didn't show. It is iced in vanilla BC, which I am just now learning how to do. Please let me know if you have any tips on how to get the BC clean and smooth or free of the bubbles. It is decorated in MMF.
I made this for my Aunt's birthday. She loves chocolate, so I used chocolate fudge BC with a chocolate chocolate chip cake. I made the sunflowers with MMF, used a cupcake top for the center of flowers and piped them with black/brown BC.
I wanted to practice some scroll work with buttercream, so I made this practice cake. It was vanilla cake. I sent it to work my husband at the sheriff's office. They had a heyday with it.
this is a little 6" MMF sunflower cake that I made for an auction at church. I forgot to take a pic before I packaged it, so sorry for the saran wrap being in the way.
This done in all MMF for our school nurse who was leaving our school. She had been so excited about my cakes, so I just had to make her one before she left.
My parents both ride motorcycles, so I decided to make them a motorcycle tire cake. This was only my second time covering a cake with fondant, so it was all trial and error. I made the flames as a last minute details, so I could have done a better job on them if I had the time.
This was my first cake to make for someone. A teacher friend of mine had heard about my cupcakes and wanted me to make a cell phone cake for her daughter's 14th birthday. The cake is iced in buttercream, as I had never covered a cake in MMF before, but the decorations are MMF. She said it turned out very yummy. I added course sugar crystals around the face of the phone and the sides of the cake to give it a "bling" look like she wanted.
This was done in MMF for a fellow teacher's baby shower at school. They said they wanted a sassy, girl cake and left it up to me as to the design. It is a chocolate/vanilla marble cake with vanilla buttercream filling.
