Garden Gnome With Birthday Cake
This was my competition entry for the "That Takes The Cake" Sugar Art Show and Cake Competition in Austin, TX 2012. This was in the Adult Advanced division, Special Techniques (Not-On-A-Cake) category. No win this year, but like always, I had a blast! He is mostly sculpted with modeling chocolate. Critter Crunch Birthday Cake
Chocolate cake carved to look like Biggs, a character from Critter Crunch (video game). Covered in MMF. Facial features are narrow rolls of fondant sandwiched between the IMBC and the final layer of fondant, then used tools to define. Eyes made glossy by brushing on 50/50 corn syrup/Everclear. "Happy Birthday" piped with royal icing.
St. Patrick's Day Wedding
6, 8, 10, and 12 inch round dummies. White sides are modeling chocolate. All green and black are a 50/50 mix of fondant and modeling chocolate. Stripes and black trim around damask were extruded. Damask was hand-cut from a template. Inspired by wedding plans of my brother-in-law for 2012.
Worst Cake Ever
"Comic Book Guy" from the Simpsons TV series. PVC pipe internal structure. His bottom half was rice cereal treats covered with gumpaste. His top half was cake. He was covered with modeling chocolate. His head was rice cereal treats covered in modeling chocolate.
Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles
8" square dummy with frozen buttercream transfer of a promotional image from the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles TV series. I found the image on the internet and flipped it in Photoshop. I dropped out the colors in the image and basically had something that looked like a coloring book page. I traced with black using tip #2. For the colors I did like a "paint-by-number" with thin colored buttercream using a paintbrush. All buttercream was Wilton's Decorator's Icing from a tub.
Tuskarr Of Northrend
Tuskarr of Northrend (character from the video game World of Warcraft). Made of rice cereal treats, royal icing, and modeling chocolate. He won 1st place in Adult Intermediate Special Techniques at the That Takes The Cake 2011 Sugar Art Show & Cake Competition in Austin, TX.
Butter pecan cupcakes (box mix) with caramel IMBC swirl using Ateco tip #845. Candy clay brain on top with some red colored piping gel + corn syrup. Happy Halloween!
Cake Ball Strawberries
Cake balls shaped and decorated to look like strawberries! DH red velvet box mix, splash of coffee creamer, dipped in white chocolate w/ red powder food coloring, topped with fondant calyx.
Lost Finale Cake
Cake for me and my buddies as we watched the LOST series finale. Peanut butter chocolate IMBC, DH Devil's Food cake, cocoa powder on top using Cricut-made stencil.
A "grats" cake to a fellow co-worker and World of Warcraft player for his little bundle of joy! 8" round iced with IMBC. Lion made with vinyl stencil I cut with my Cricut.
Oreo Birthday Cake
DH Dark Chocolate Fudge cake mix with dark chocolate IMBC. Top effect achieved with a stencil made using Cricut and vinyl.
Sunflower W/ Oreo
DH Dark Chocolate Fudge cuppie with IMBC icing and Oreo cookie on top. Many thanks to KHalstead for sharing her info on cupcake bouquets. The cuppie is sitting in a 5 oz. plastic cup inside a 4" flower pot. Cupcake inspired by sunflower design in the book "Hey, Cupcake" and a similar design by Martha Stewart.

Bmw Logo Graduation
My brother-in-law graduated from tech school and was accepted into a BMW training program. This is an 8" chocolate cake, filled with Oreo Costco Mousse, and iced with chocolate IMBC. The topper is MMF with silver luster dust and coated with 1/2 corn syrup and 1/2 gin.
Yes, I know ... it's another penguin cake! But they're so cute! 8" round. DH dark chocolate fudge mix. Iced + filled with chocolate ganache. Covered in MMF. Borders with royal icing. Figures with MMF and Satin Ice, decorated with royal icing.
My own take on the melted snowman sugar cookie. NFSC with royal icing and MMF accents.
Christmas gift to my friend/co-worker. 8" round, DH yellow cake. Semi-sweet chocolate ganache (hence all the chocolate smudge marks!). Covered in MMF. Accents are MMF and royal icing.
Calvin & Hobbes
Cake just for fun! I wanted to try decorating with boiled icing (a.k.a. Italian Meringue) because I thought it might look like snow. MMF accents modeled after the famous Calvin & Hobbes "Snowman House of Horror" 8" round, dark chocolate cake (Duncan Hines), filled and iced with boiled icing.
Dragon Age (Video Game) Cakes
I made these a while back for the development team of "Dragon Age" (video game on PC, XBox 360, and PS3). Cake on the left was French Vanilla (box mix) with chocolate American buttercream (Wilton recipe). Cake on the right was Red Velvet (box mix) with vanilla American buttercream (Wilton recipe). They were topped with a square of MMF fondant decorated to look like the game's loading screen.
Spooky Halloween cauldron! 8" round butter cake (Duncan Hines box mix) with chocolate buttercream icing/filling (Wilton recipe). Sprayed with Wilton Color Mist (black). Piping gel tinted with Wilton teal. MMF accents.
Engagement Cake W/ Brown & Orange Swirls
Chocolate cake (box mix) with coffee flavored IMBC filling and iced with chocolate buttercream (Wilton recipe). Topped with painted fondant and chocolate BC shell borders. This cake doubled as my Wilton Course 3, Class 2 cake and as a gift to my friend who was getting married.
Engagement Cake Designed After Wedding Invitations
Cake for my friend who's getting married this weekend ... so a pre-wedding cake? 8" round French Vanilla cake (box mix). Chocolate buttercream filling and icing (Wilton recipe using butter-flavored Crisco). Ivory marshmallow fondant with royal icing decorations and shell border. I free-hand piped designs similar to what was on their wedding invitations.

Welcome Mat: House Warming Cake
Vanilla cake (box mix) filled with cream cheese frosting (tub). Iced with green buttercream (Wilton recipe) using tip #233 (grass tip) on top.
