Rustic Elegance Wedding Cake
Four-tier wedding cake (strawberry with raspberry filling and triple citrus with lemon buttercream all SMBC'd and fondanted) The bride said "Do what you want" :) For each tier, we wrapped a piece of burlap and then a thinner piece of ivory satin ribbon. The pearls were hand-rolled, strung, and draped. We also made floral brooches and skeleton keys. The top flower is real and was placed on top in a pinch until we arrived at the venue to scope out the other flowers (see the final picture with the blue hydrangea--what a difference a flower can make to a cake!) Thanks for looking!

Superman Wedding Cake White cake with strawberry filling, ganached and fondanted The bride wanted me to surprise her groom with a Superman wedding cake--my employees and I wanted to do something that was very elegant so we went with the concept of Superman and his bride (modeled after the couple) flying into the clouds around a cityscape. The "windows" on the buildings were piped with royal icing. Thanks for looking!

Ombre Petal Cake
Ombre Petal Cake--styrofoam dummy cake covered in individual petals...it took two of my employees plus me 20 hours to complete. We finished off the top with two burgundy poppy flowers. The cake was made for a bridal expo and we will "finish" the cake off with a few more small flowers on the top...the cake is very "Maggie Austin-esque" :) TFL!

"cake, Rattle, And Roll"- 1950's Music Cake
My entry for the 2012 CNY Cake Competition that took place in Ithaca, NY, on October 6th. I placed second in the Adult 3 (Advanced) division! The cake took about 36 hours and actually had a bottom tier that broke horribly 2 minutes before reaching the hotel after a 5 hour drive! The black records are made of gumpaste and have a styrofoam core. TFL!

Pizza Picnic Sugar Cookies
One evening, I was hammered with several Pizza Hut commercials (and the subsequent craving to order a pizza!) so I decided to make a cookie set of a pizza picnic. Pizza, pizza slices, a bag of chips, red coke glasses with straws, and little white paper plates. Also, the LARGE sugar cookie picnic blanket. The patterning was airbrushed.

Brant Point Lighthouse Cake
Lighthouse cake made for an 80 year old's birthday. She is particularly fond of this lighthouse that is located on Nantucket. The cake (which is the body of the lighthouse) is made of red velvet cake with cream cheese filling and covered in chocolate ganache. The top piece is predominantly edible--there is a cardboard round covered in black fondant that is providing support. The windows were all hand cut and they also have "glass" (which are overhead transparencies). The light is a little battery-powered blinking light that I bought at a craft store. The walkway is one solid cut piece of gumpaste (with the vertical white pieces being cut skewers that I painted with white food coloring). As for the pink flamingo: it is a family joke :) Thanks for looking!

"sew In Love"- 1940's Wedding Dress Cake
My submission to the 2012 Connecticut Cake Competition. Inspired by a 1940's wedding dress dedicated to my grandmother, who did not have a wedding dress when she married my grandfather in 1944 (she could only afford a suit). The cake took 57 hours of which 24 hours were spent on the flowers. The cake is real (white/yellow with non-dairy buttercream) and was donated to a soup kitchen after the event! The sewing box is also made of real cake (with a wooden skeleton and paneled with gumpaste) and could open and close. Thanks for looking!

Shabby Chic Birthday Cake Trio
Sorry that this photo is so blurry...the other photos are better! Cake trio for my daughter's first birthday party to go with a "Shabby Chic" theme. I created cakes for the adults (the green one is chocolate with salted caramel buttercream, and the pink one is yellow with raspberry buttercream) and a little 4 inch "smash cake" for my daughter (white cake with chocolate frosting). The green one has pearl necklaces draped all down the backside of the cake, and they have gumpaste and dragee brooches on the front. The pink cake has an ombre effect--I took strips of varying colors of pink and used my stitching tool to make them look like strips of fabric. The flowers on the top are real (a ranuncula and English rose). The ivory cake has a gumpaste bunny on the top (which is my daughter's nickname). Thanks for looking!

Chi Omega Cake
I made this cake for my sorority chapter's 30th anniversary (the Epsilon Kappa chapter at St. Lawrence University). The flavors are chocolate cake with coconut SMBC, chocolate cake with cookie dough bites, and red velvet with cream cheese. I hand-painted parts of our symphony on the cake and sculpted two owls (with sparkly bows) out of gumpaste. Thanks for looking!

White Anemone Cake
Simple four-tier white wedding cake with black satin ribbon and gumpaste white anemone flowers. Cake flavors are white cake with SMBC and chocolate cake with cookies and cream filling. The bride wanted just the ribbon base but I pulled a creative last-minute decision and put the tiny black dots along the ribbon to help tie in the stamen centers and to also give the cake a little more detail. Thanks for looking!

Winter "one"derland
6 inch yellow cake with buttercream frosting and 8 inch midnight chocolate cake with salted caramel buttercream and fleur de sel salt Design was inspired by a cake found on Google search. The snowman is made out of yellow cake with buttercream filling. To give it structure, each cake ball was coated with white chocolate and then covered in gumpaste. The "ice wall" behind the snowman was a change in the design to accommodate the fact that the snowman wasn't positioned in the middle of the top tier but rather more towards the front. The hardest part of this cake? The hat and scarf!!
