This pattern came from the book "The Gingerbread Architect" - I have built simple gingerbread before but this was my biggest project yet. It was easier than I thought and is holding itself together. It is on display at my office right now.
These flowers were made from a mold I got at the Florida ICES Day of Sharing in Feb 2010. The cake is a 10" round covered in buttercream and MFF, the border is royal icing and the flowers and bow are gumpaste. For a first attempt - I was very happy.
I did this for my nephew's high school graduation. This is the Williams Sonoma Build-A-Bear pan and I used the soccer player pattern for the uniform, but altered it to match the St Charles IL North Stars basketball uniform - my nephew was #11 on the team so that's how I did the bear. Since they are the North Stars, I did the bear as a white polar bear, rather than sugaring it as a fuzzy bear.
This is my first attempt at airbrushing. I used a stencil that I created from an internet image and using SCAL, I cut it from freezer paper on my Cricut. I then airbrushed the colors and added the outlines with buttercream. Hope to use this technique on my nephew's high school graduation cakes - I have a tennis court and a basketball court to use.
My first covered cakes - I used rolled buttercream flavored with the same flavor mix that I use in my regular buttercream. Each ornament is 1/2 of a Wilton sports ball pan on top of a split 6" round. Dusted with a little petal dust.
My first real cookie attempt. These are 2.5" round sugar cookies with Fondarific tops and stenciled using Designer Stencils sports ball stencils and Antonio74 Royal icing.
My first FBCT - turned out pretty good. In some ways it was easier than I expected but in other ways it was harder. Followed the directions in the article here - that really helped. I made this for my staff - it is the week that hospitals honor x-ray techs, radiation therapy techs, CT techs, etc - which is why I liked the picture so much!
Was inspired by all the pumpkins posted here - so I did one. This is a single bundt cake, trimmed just a little to make it rounder. It's actually a pumpkin cake recipe, and I did tort and fill the cake with orange colored cream cheese decorator icing - got that recipe off this site. My staff loved it - and I'm making another one for an Oct 31st bake sale!!
Re-created the top tier of my sister's original cake for her anniversary - altho used buttercream roses, rather than fresh flowers (which were on the original cake). Did blur the faces on the topper just for this posting - not blurred on the actual cake :-)
This is a 3 layer chocolate cake with buttercream flowers and my first attempt at basketweave on the side. I did it for my mother's birthday. I thought the basketweave turned out better than I expected.
The first cake I've done "on order" - everything I've done so far was what I wanted to do, or for a class. This is the first cake where I did someone else's request - was asked for a cake for a 4 year old with a baseball theme. The sand is demerara sugar (also called turbinado sugar).
