Safari Cake
My 9 year old daughter drew pictures of her favorite safari animals. I put them on the cake using buttercream transfers. That's her driving the gumpaste jeep on top of the cake and holding onto her faithful dog, Max. With the exception of the jeep, this is a buttercream only cake. I made the green frosting go from dark at the bottom to light at the top.

Mermaid Cake
Little Mermaid cake was made for a 6th birthday. The cake is covered in BC. The mermaid and shells are fondant. The coral is made from fruity rice crispy treats. The seaweed was made with the leaf tip. I made the mermaid by drawing her on parchment. Then I rolled out the different colors of fondant and cut them out like puzzle pieces. When I assembled it on the cake, I layered the pieces a little so it looked a little 3D. I made the scales on the fondant using a #12 tip. My daughter was super excited to get this cake. It was more than she imagined it would be.

Purse Cake
This was a 4 layer chocolate cake with a chocolate mouse filling. I baked a 10" and an 8" square, cut them in half and stacked (largest to smallest) and filled them. I stuck it in the freezer while I made the buttercream. Then I carved and trimmed the sides to get an angled purse like shape. I covered it in pink buttercream. My diamond mat melted, so I piped on the diagonal lines.(Steady hands..) I made a black fondant flap for the top and a black rope for the bottom and sides. I used white fondant and silver pearl dust to make the handle and all the little dots, also the monogram. Then came the part I was most proud of, the piping. In my best handwriting yet, I piped the birthday greeting with white buttercream.
