Guitar Cake Gone Bad!
I was so proud of this cake. I sculpted it just the way I wanted, iced it nice and smooth (which I have difficulty doing so I was just tickled with myself!) then, I made my biggest mistake. I froze it. I just got my airbrush and had trouble with it putting holes in the icing so I decided I'd make the icing nice and hard. Great theory....bad outcome. I painted with gusto (Oh this is looking AWESOME!), happily blending paints and getting a marvelous effect. And then it happened. Condensation. My beautiful cake was going down....and fast. I watched in horror, silently cussing myself for my stupidity as the food coloring started to bead and sweat. Ugh. I carefully scraped off the icing and started over. Time was not on my side. I needed to bring it to my parents for my husbands birthday party. So I did the best I could and repainted it. The cake itself was still too cold though so the beads came back as it warmed up. I panicked and was sloppy on the details I wanted to do and didn't get to hardly any of them. It was supposed to be a "Guitar Hero" cake. Ah well. The best thing I can say is that I learned from my mistake and next time I'll make sure to think it through. LOL

Jack-O-Lantern
I made this cake for my husband's aunt's Halloween party. I made 4 9" cakes, 2 yellow cake, 2 chocolate, both from scratch. I used the yellow on the lower half for stability since my chocolate is more moist. Buttercream icing on the inside and covered in MM Fondant. I used some of Wilton's tools to sculpt the face and make the pumpkin lines. Then I airbrushed the entire thing with orange food coloring. I then added a touch of brown to my orange in the airbrush and went over the pumpkin lines to give it more depth and reality. I hand painted the black face. The stem I made from fondant and just made it weathered with my Wilton tool then twisted it to make it look like I twisted it off the vine. Hope you enjoy it!

Turkey Cake
I made this cake for Thanksgiving 2008. The body was chocolate cake with buttercream icing covered in chocolate fondant. The head was made from RCT covered the same way. I used food coloring and vodka to hand paint the feathers on the body. I used gumpaste for the tail feathers using the flat side of a butter knife to score the lines in them then handpainted them in the same method as above. The eyes, beak and waddle were also made with gumpaste. This was one of my favorite creations to date!

Lego Anikin Skywalker
This was for my sons sixth birthday. It was a very moist chocolate cake that compressed overnight. LOL. I still have a lot to learn. It was covered with MM fondant (buttercream underneath) and then airbrushed. The eyes and mouth were painted on with food coloring and vodka mix.
