She had two birthday parties, so two cakes. The mom wanted to reuse the tiara for this cake. I think I preferred it without the tiara. Anyway, it turned out cute,. Vanilla cake w/ white chocolate/mandarin orange filling. MMF w/ fondant and RI accents.
I decided to make my own bday cake this year. (my 40th, so I wanted it to be special) I love old school tattoos and flash, so here's my version of a Sailor Jerry cake. All buttercream. Pinup, nautical stars, anchor and swallow are all frozen buttercream transfers (My first!) Cake was lemon poppyseed with each layers filled with banana, pineapple and strawberry, respectively. Also a first were my gumpaste roses... its not perfect, but I love this cake. Its just what I wanted.
10" and 6" tiered - vanilla cake w/pastry cream/whipped cream and fresh strawberries. Fondant roses and accents. RI Piping. I made a RI Tiara, but it broke and didn't have time to replace. Also, the striping on the fondant board is zebra, but doesn't really show because of the size of the cake, bummer! Any suggestions as to how I could have improved the line of fondant roses? I didn't care for how it looked from above. Thanks to fellow CC'ers for inspiration for this cake
MMF w/ buttercream accents. hand painted dark fondant. lettering is royal icing (except for the couple letters that I broke, which were added freehand.
My friend baked the cake, and I did the decorating. turrets made of cupcakes with sugar cones inverted on top. Stones around castle made of chocolate.
