Pirate Ship With Hedgehog Crew
Chocolate fudge cake with chocolate buttercream and fondant. I was a little daunted when asked for a pirate ship with a crew of hedgehogs but this cake was a blast to make. I based the ship on Debbie Brown's sunken galleon and added other bits and pieces. Thanks to CC members for some great inspiration.

80Th Birthday Animal Cake
I was asked to make an 80th birthday cake for the mother of some good friends of mine. They asked for a 'this is your life/favourite things' cake which had to include a lion, a tiger, madagascan lemurs, a jaguar, a red squirrel, a woodpecker, swaledale sheep, an Aberdeen Angus cow, a certain piece of music by Handel and tennis. It took me a while to think of a way to combine all these without it looking naff. I was fairly pleased with it but I need to practise my piping!

Cream Rose Wedding Cake
My first wedding cake and attempt at sugar flowers. The bottom layer is a chocolate cake with chocolate buttercream, and the top layer is a gluten and dairy free version. The decoration matched the bride's bouquet and groom's buttonhole. I was pleased with the end result. It weighed a ton and had to be transported 200 miles. All was fine until the hotel staff damaged the cake when they took it out of the box, hence the additional ribbon on the bottom layer. I was gutted but no-one seemed to notice.

Dragon Cake
I made this for my friend's son who insisted on a dragon for his 6th birthday. The dragon's body is made from the piece of cake cut out to form the cave. The rest of him is made from sugarpaste dusted with petal powders. The coins and money pots are also from sugarpaste dusted in lustre powders.

Drum Kit
I made this for my friend's son. It was modelled on his drum kit. The drums were a vanilla sponge filled with jam and buttercream and covered in sugarpaste. The stand and drumsticks were also made from sugarpaste. The overall cake ended up much bigger than I'd anticipated and it weighed an absolute ton! I suspect they were eating cake for days to come.

Horse Cake
This was inspired by a 'My Little Pony' cake by Debbie Brown. As the birthday girl was 11 I had to make it a bit more grown up. It also needed to feed 50 so I put the stable in a field. I thought it would be good practise in preparation for my first stacked wedding cake this July. It took a while to make the straw roof and I was a bit worried my ponies looked like Moomins until they got their manes. It worked out fine in the end and they loved it.
