Yet Another Horse Cake!
Third horse cake for a horse crazy granddaughter. Horses are fondant/MC, trees are grape stems dipped in choc. and rice krispies, water is melted ganache swirled and cooled over which gelatin was poured, and rocks are made of sugar. The cake, itself, was strawberry filled with cream cheese BC, covered with white chocolate ganache over which was laid MFF.

Chestnut Horse Cake
This chocolate colored, chocolate fudge cake, torted with a sour cream chic filling, was made for a young horsewoman who loved a buckskin version I had made earlier. I covered it with dark choc ganache and a mixture of MC/LMF. Unfortunately, the head is too large for the body which was constrained by a too short cake board I had made earlier. But she was delighted and didn't mind that I was distressed over proportions.

Yellow And Purple Wedding Topper
Well, I finally got them finished. These are the gum paste flowers I've been working on for the last couple of weeks. I really am not a speedy artist! The request was for purple calla lilies, yellow roses, ferns and baby's breath. I pondered for a couple of days how to combine the colors without looking like a harlequin's suit, but feel like I achieved what she was looking for. I no longer make wedding cakes, due to frequent, unexpected difficulties with my hand, but I do love making flowers and they are something that I can make in advance. I am having to learn to work with another decorator, however, as it is not my prerogative to determine what goes where. But compromise is a skill that has applications far beyond cake decorating! I hope that the bride is as happy as my making this contribution has made me.

Purple Clematis For A Bridal Shower Cake
The bride's favorite color is purple. I was concerned as purple is an unstable color, but I had no issues with it. The flowers are gum paste clematis, a nice spring blossom. I was upset, however, with my incredibly poor fondant job so I discounted it $20.00. I've never had problems with MFF before, but I think I made it a little too soft. It is white chocolate cheesecake MFF over white chocolate ganache. A white cake torted and filled with fresh strawberry filling completes the spring feeling.

Schnauzer Cake
My little grand niece has wanted a dog all her short life. I made this for her 6th birthday. It was the Schnauzer cake I started last year before I injured my hand. (Poor girl, she even had to wait for her dog cake. Maybe someday a real one will make its appearance.) I made the head out of modeling chocolate with a styrofoam base. Even then it was super heavy so I ran a long wooden dowel thru the cake board. The cake is a WASC with buttercream filling, covered with white chocolate ganache and modeling chocolate. I ran into so many challenges that it took determination to be able to give her this long-awaited dog. The original head I had carved last year out of white modeling chocolate. I had hoped to be able to air brush it, but found that that wasn't successful with chocolate. So then I decided to use ACP and launched it directly on the head. Big fail. It went on as transparent and did a lousy job. There was no way I could match the MC body color. So, I had no recourse but to cover OVER the previous MC head. (That's where the excess weight came from.) I'd planned on making appropriate fuzzy ears out of MC, but during this whole painful ordeal, my air conditioning was out and I was working with soupy chocolate. So the ears ended up with no detail, made hastily out of tylose stiffened fondant, dried overnight in front of a fan. Quite frankly, I think the detail I most like is the quarry tile floor out of fondant for the cake board. It came together and she was thrilled. Today I am having a relapse and trying to clean a house that suffered while I suffered with this project!

Horse Cake For My Grand Daughter
My grand daughter asked for a horse cake for this birthday. She wasn't satisfied with just a horse figure, but instead, wanted a horse made out of cake. (One of these days she's going to ask for the moon!) I made the body out of cake, but due to weight issues, the head is carved styrofoam, covered with Modeling chocolate. I also used MC for the legs, but the mane, tail and rope were fondant. I was too scared to use my new airbrush for the first time on this cake, so settled for dusting it instead.

Mermaid Cake For A Little Red Haired Girl Who Loves Mermaids.
I told the grandmother that I cannot make an Ariel, but will make a red haired mermaid. The cake is lemon with a fresh raspberry filling, covered with white chocolate ganache which, in turn, is covered with white chocolate cheesecake MFF. The figure is modeling chocolate and the shells are fondant, made from molds I made from real shells. The coral is isomalt, melted and poured into crushed ice. Inspired by Shortcakes of Charleston.

Cake For Gentlemans 89Th Birthday I Was Told He Loved Flowers And Animals But I Didnt Want To Have It Look Too Feminine This Is What I
Cake for gentleman's 89th birthday. I was told he loved flowers and animals, but I didn't want to have it look too feminine. This is what I came up with. The Lily of the Valley is May's birth month flower. The bark effect is courtesy of my oak tree from which I made a mold. Endemic to Missouri is poison ivy, really a beautiful vine-- albeit definitely not one to touch! As there are obviously no cutters, I drew and cut them and veined with a generic veiner. (I had planned to put a teeny tick down at the base, but got too late and forgot. They are as common as the poison ivy!) The cake is a yellow cake with fresh blackberry curd / whole blackberries. Covered with dark chocolate ganache and white chocolate cheesecake MFF.

Every Drawing Madeleine Makes Has Her Signature Rainbow When Discussing Her Birthday Cake She Asked Me To Make Her Latest Painting It Is
Every drawing Madeleine makes has her signature rainbow. When discussing her birthday cake, she asked me to make her latest painting. It is really difficult to replicate a child's drawing without changing it any, but I think I came close and she was absolutely delighted. She was so proud to see her painting in cake.

The roses are fondant, as is the ruffle.

Amelia's 7th birthday. She loves fairies so these fondant fairies live by the blueberry WASC mushroom in a field of blue fondant campanula and yellow fondant buttercups. The mushroom cake is torted and filled with lemon curd, covered with white chocolate ganache and white chocolate/cheesecake MFF. (I was too fearful to try my air brush for the first time, so the 'shroom is dusted with petal dust.)

For Her 6Th Birthday Madeleine Wanted A Rabbit With A Carrot In A Flower Garden I Asked Her To Paint Me A Picture Of What She Had In Mind
For her 6th birthday, Madeleine wanted a rabbit with a carrot in a flower garden. I asked her to paint me a picture of what she had in mind so I could replicate it in cake. Every picture she draws contains a rainbow, so using flowed sugar for the figures, and pastillage for the rainbow & sun, here is what I came up with. It took more effort to make the wobbly rainbow and crossed lines pencil effect in the rabbit than I thought it would. The cake is strawberry with dark chocolate ganache filling, covered with white chocolate cheesecake MFF.

Birthday Cake For A 5 Yr Old Who Is Fascinated With Sharks.
The birthday boy is really "into sharks". His grandma says he likes to grab people on the arm, pretending to be a shark. I wanted to make an arm and hand protruding from the mouth, but wiser heads prevailed! Shark is RKT and fondant, while the teeth are gum paste. The shells are fondant.

For a benefit auction: cake is eggnog flavored----bright green and red zebra stripes inside as befits the season. Covered and filled with white chocolate ganache, topped with white chocolate-cream cheese MFF. The accents are all made of MMF. I had fun with the teeny packages, especially the bows and ribbons! Rudolph has a dot of glaze on his nose to make it shine. After all, he is the lead reindeer!

Amelia's Vanity Birthday Cake
I had ambivalent feelings re making this cake. She is only 6yrs old and I felt the subject was a little too old for her. But she was being given a sleep-over party where all her little friends were to be playing dress up, so I relented. The cake is cherry/chocolate chip, filled and covered with dark chocolate ganache-- topped with white choc/ cream cheese MFF. All the cosmetics are made of gumpaste.

Gumpaste Vanity Set
All the elements are completed for a little girl's "make up" cake. Everything but the glass of the mirror is gumpaste. (The cake board is covered in cake foil to represent a mirror, and real lace surrounds it.) I can hardly wait to finish the cake for the party in a couple of days. Thanks to Jacque Benson of Sugar Teachers for the tute on the mirror and lipstick.
