i made the dalmation and fire hydrant for the cake topper (inspiration drawn from a couple of cakes here at cake central), and for the bottom tier, i made a stencil of a fancy "P" since the baby's name starts with that letter, and i filled in the stencil with chocolate morsels.
I used strawberry whoppers for the "balls" and dusted them with petal dust to make them shimmer.
i couldn't find any jonas brothers things to put on a cake, so i made a fondant guitar and stars (colors that match the napkins) and got a "backstage pass" from the party section at wal-mart, using a photo of the jonas brothers.
my dd wanted me to make her birthday cake to look like this real dooney & bourke purse. this is my first purse cake! i took two 9 x 9 cakes and put them side by side, then carved the shape of the purse, covered with buttercream and then MMF. i used edible markers to do the doodles similar to what the real purse looks like (as best i could since the markers didn't come in the same colors as the real purse).
I did this in fondant (my first attempt at fondant), and it didn't work out too well, so I ended up going over the fondant with buttercream. I still think it came out cute anyway!
This is my first calla lily made out of gumpaste. It got kind of wet (?) after I put it in the refrigerator to keep. I don't know why, but that's why it turned out to be translucent at the bottom. :(

someone requested i make a birthday cake made just of chocolate. they didn't want it to say happy birthday or anything like that, so i made a devil's food cake with milk chocolate icing and mini hershey kisses on top.
This is my first "decorated cake." I used the grass tip with regular icing, and the flowers are made out of gumpaste. It is a 9" round yellow cake. It was inspired by spottydog's cupcakes.
