Bicycle Built For Two
Wedding cake for my friends Sarah & Travis! This is the first wedding cake I've done so I was super nervous, but the bride & groom loved it so yay! This was also the first time I've made roses, but luckily I had the amazing you tube tutorial by Cakes by Francesca to teach me. The silhouette figures were cut from fondant using a paring knife, then applied to the cake using the wax paper transfer technique over the original image that I learned from jessicakesblog (mrsmudrash). Love her blog!

Vintage Cupcakes
Made for my friend Sarah's bridal shower! I was given a free rein for design, so I couldn't wait try making a set like the cover of one of the cake magazines my mum-in-law just brought me back from England. Did I mention I have the best mum-in-law ever? :) If you're wondering what impression mats I used - they're actually embossing folders from Cuttlebug and Sizzix. The stencils are from Designer Stencils.

Shabby Chic Baby Shower
My sis-in-law loves shabby chic, and when she talked about decorating with bunting for her baby shower I immediately thought of maggidup's lovely cake. Everything is fondant. Since I live in California where silver dragees are banned, I swirled plain dragees with silver airbrush paint in a bowl with a brush for a similar effect. Instructions for the baby teddy bear are in the book Modelling Fancy-Dress Babies by Frances McNaughton. I used the Holly Products baby head mold for the face, and the Frankly Sweet Multi-Mould for the hands. TFL!

Rainbow Bunny
I was ecstatic when I found the fabled wilton bunny pan at a local cake shop last week so I could make this. Instructions can be found on the sugaredproductions blog (sugarshack). For the flowers, I used the medium blossom ejector from the new Wilton flower kit. I especially love this cake because it reminds me of my favorite stuffed animal from childhood - Rainbow Bunny!

Princess Kaylee
This is the second time I've made this cake, but I like it much more since I have way better tools than the last time I made it 2 years ago! Tiara is gum paste sugar-gunned onto a CC template, covered with wax paper & wrapped around a round tin, then air brushed silver (ooh shiny). I colored the pearls by stirring them with gel color in a small bowl with a paint brush for a minute or so. Mini flowers are made with the new wilton flower kit, and funky tappits used for the letters. The little crown on the smash cake is from the wilton global mold.

Bumble (The Abominable Snowman!)
I just adored the Bumble cake by tokazodo, so I had to try making him for my husband's office holiday party this year. The kiddos LOVED him, and that just makes all the work worth it right? :) I used the WASC recipe (+ sky blue food color) and it was enough to make one 9" (3" high) & three 7" (1" high) layers. By the way, I completely underestimated how much time it would take to pipe on all the fur - at least 1.5 hours! My hand is still in a claw :)

Parisian Birthday
A sweet little cake for my Mom's birthday. I wish I could take credit for the design, but really I just followed the tutorial at one of my new favorite cake blogs - jessicakesblog. :) I couldn't find black sugar pearls, but I did discover you can color plain white dragees with regular gel coloring! Just add dragees + gel coloring to a small bowl, then stir with a paintbrush for a minute or so until uniformally colored. They'll take a bit to dry, so wait at least a few minutes before adding them to your cake. TFL folks!

Zombie Unity Fingers
I'm an instructor for U-Jam Fitness, a new format which has gained a pretty big following in the California bay area. This is the unity sign U-Jam folks like to make, so I thought it would be cute to make zombie finger cookies in this shape and bring them into class. And no, I see NO conflict of interest in the fitness instructor bringing cookies to the gym hahahaha!

Juicy Purple Ombre
Birthday cake for a friend in a nice juicy purple. Better pics exist, but they're being held hostage on my husband's camera. This was my first attempt at using an airbrush, and yes I did spray so much on the top tier that it was still wet 24 hours later. Haha! It was inspired by a Maggie Austin design, and I found a tutorial for the ruffles on the "Call me Cupcake!" blog. The flowers were made with the new wilton flower kit. TFL!

Garden Cupcakes
These were test cupcakes for my friend's bridal shower since I had never made red velvet before. I used Wilton tip 1A for the swirls. The flowers are leftover from previous cake adventures which I plopped on top in an attempt to dress them up a bit. I took them in to the gym to pass out after my U-Jam Fitness class. Job security, hahahaha!

Just Kauai'd
My friend snuck off to Kauai and got hitched! What!?! Where were the bridesmaids? But we still love her and couldn't be happier for those crazy kids. :) We did however insist upon throwing a little bash when they got back, and here's the cake. For the plumeria / frangipani, I used the fira frangipani tutorial for the most part, but the aluminum foil / lily nail part from the wilton tutorial. Also, since I didn't have an actual frangipani cutter, I just used the tulip petal cutter from the green wilton set and lopped each into three separate petals. Cake base is covered with brown sugar. TFL!

Alejandro
This cake's name is Alejandro. I tried to pull a Cake Boss and steamed the cake right before taking pictures, but instead I just ended up melting all the feathers. MEGA FAIL. There was a can of diced tomatoes holding up the feathers by the time this picture was taken. :) In the end it was still a crowd pleaser at the family dinner, so Alejandro was a success.

Christmas Cabin
I brought this cake to my husband's office holiday party last weekend and people are still asking him about it today. :) The cake design is from anxeli. However for the lights, I found it much easier just to use a regular light string (from Michaels), since I could zig zag it across the front of the cake instead of drilling through the cake with the straw tunnels. The battery pack is duct-taped under the cake stand, because I'm MacGyver like that. I used one of those new Duff impression mats (also Michaels) for the wood panels, spring roll wrappers for the windows (already in my pantry, score), and sprinkled on some cake sparkles leftover from one of those wilton classes. TFL!

Plumeria Bouquet
Birthday cake for my Mom. I borrowed the design from awsus's Spring Flowers Cake, but made plumeria instead since my Mom is a hula dancer. Hehe. I found a great plumeria tutorial on the Wilton site. I also found a great CC forum post on using artists chalk to color gum paste flowers and steaming them to seal in the color. Worked great! TFL!

Haunted Mansion
Yes, it's another haunted mansion cake! This is a scaled-down / scaled-back version of the wilton cake because I needed to be able to finish it in 24 hours, bake-to-donezo. It was for an elementary school party for a coworker's kids. Apparently it got lots of cheering when it was brought into the room. Score!

Home Sweet Home
I made this for my husband for our 3rd wedding anniversary last month. We spent the greater part of the past year moving / trying to buy a house, and so we were perfectly happy to celebrate at home this year. I borrowed the idea from a really awesome cake by modthyrth on this site. TFL!
