5Th Annual Cok Agf Gathering
My first guitar cake (used Wilton pan, extended the neck and did a bit of carving). It was a learning experience -- and I have ideas to make it better next time. I'm pretty pleased with the end product though. Buttercream frosting (vanilla and chocolate) and filling (the cake was torted) with 50/50 MMF and gumpaste accents (tuners, pegs, saddle, etc.). Using spaghetti for the strings was a lifesaver! Metallic details were done in silver Wilton Color Mist. Cake was Fresh Orange.

Nita's 50Th
50th birthday cake for a Country & Western music fan. Chocolate cake with vanilla buttercream frosting and filling. The cow print is made from a sugar sheet (to avoid stained mouths). The western and music icons are made of chocolate. 8" round. My freehand writing isn't very good, but overall it was a decent cake. I've recently move, so most of my deco supplies are in storage! Thanks for looking!

Joshua's First Birthday Cake
This cake was for my son's first birthday. The theme for his party was simply ABCs. (he loves The Alphabet Song). The top (the giant cupcake) was his smash cake; the bottom was a three-layered cake - both cakes were yellow "funfetti" (made my own), filled and frosted with homemade vanilla buttercream. The alphabet accents are Wilton Sugar Sheets. I tried to make the cupcake wrapper from a Sugar Sheet, but it wasn't pliable enough.

Rob's Sushi Birthday Cupcakes
Made these for my hubby's birthday. Admittedly NOT my best work, but it's hard to be a cake decorating extraordinaire when you're trying to tend to an 8 week old -- by yourself! LOL! It's a wonder that I even got these things baked. Originally I had grand plans to do a sushi cake ... but I'm learning to simplify these days! (Jan. 2011). Carrot cake with cream cheese frosting (canned), pearlized jimmies for rice, orange sugar for masago (fish roe), and black mmf for sushi. The sushi toppings are dried fruit trail mix (dates, banana chips, etc.). I had no time to hand mold anything. Rob really likes these though.

My Fiesta Birthday Cake Jan. 2010
The cake I did for my husband's (and my own) birthday this year; it was a Fiesta theme party. 2-layer, 9x13 French Vanilla Cake with Dulce de Leche filling and vanilla buttercream (including piped cacti). MMF chili peppers, streamers and covered sombrero (made with Wilton Mini-Wonder Mold). Margarita candles are the only purchased, non-edible decor. This cake was fantastic (SO yummy) and I got a lot of compliments on the decorating.

Quilters: A Musical
I made this cake for a artists' reception at a local theatre at which I volunteer. The show was Quilters: A Musical. This was the first time I've decorated two cakes in one weekend (the other was a baby shower cake) ... and it was sort of a last-minute request, but I think it turned out pretty good. It was also my first time making chocolate buttercream (which was delish). The cake was 9x13 yellow cake (torted) with vanilla and chocolate buttercream.

Bridal Cake For State Fair 2009
My first "wedding cake". Styrofoam dummies decorated for the 2009 Kentucky State Fair. This is my first competition, but I mainly did it for the challenge and experience. I underestimated how long it would take for me to do this cake ... and with my hectic schedule I had to scale my plans for his WAY back ... but I am happy with the finished product. All I can say is that I learn A LOT from this cake ... and I got it done (in the wee hours of the morning that it was due)! The cake is covered in ivory -colored marshamallow fondant and decorated with sage satin ribbon and handcrafted gum paste flowers (roses, sweet peas and daisies). The styrofoam rounds were 4" tall and 6", 8", 10" in diameter. Thanks for looking! And thank you to my fellow CCers for advice on how to cover the dummies!

Wilton Course 3 Finale
Both tiers are dreamsicle cake with vanilla buttercream, fondant bow & handmade 50/50 fondant & gum paste roses and leaves (each colored by hand). This is my first tiered cake ... and my own design. I'm pretty happy with it, although I ran out of time to finish all the details.

Gaspers' Going Away Cake
Our friends & poker buddies are moving away, so I made this cake for their farewell party. It's my first shaped cake (I cut the hexagon from a 14" round) and I'm really pleased with how it turned out! My DH helped with the lustre dust. It's a yellow cake with MMF. All decorations are edible.
