Graduation Cakes For 5 Theater Grads
Not happy at all with the way the buttercream turned out, but I was completely out of time. I was working on this one until the minute we walked out the door to deliver. It was for my brother and his 4 friends, who have been in the theater program together throughout high school. I made two half sheets and 144 mini cupcakes. For those of you who talked me through the planning of these, thank you so much! You helped me get my head on straight about what goes into all the mini cuppies, and we were all more on target with the amount that would have been needed, but I just made what my mom wanted. We were out of cake halfway through the party! Anyway, one cake has their colleges and names, and the other one has symbols or costumes from their favorite shows and characters. TFL!

Plain Birthday Cake
This is pretty plainly decorated, but I used it more for trying techniques than anything else. I baked it with a flower nail, and I'm not sure there was much of a difference from the way cakes have baked in the past. I also tried out the upside down icing for the first time. It didn't turn out exactly like I wanted, but turned out with a better top edge than I have ever gotten before, so I will definitely use that technique again.

Butterflies!
I've seen many other versions of these butterfly cupcakes on CC, but here's our version. My friend was having a party for her daughter's first birthday, so another friend and I helped her make these cupcakes. I thought they turned out so cute, and the three of us spent the whole party explaining to people how we made them. : )

Dad's Retirement Cake
I made this for my dad when he retired after 31 years at IBM, and went back into teaching high school math. I free-handed the IBM logo, and the cake is covered in cream cheese fondant, which we loved the taste of, but was very hard to work with because of how soft it is. I would definitely use it again, though, just because the flavor was so much better than some other fondant recipes I've used.

Dad's Golf Course Birthday Cake
This was the fastest decorating I have ever done. My dad was very happy with it, but I think it would have turned out a lot better if I had the time I needed to get all the details right. Also, my family doesn't really eat much cake, so I only made a 9 x 13, but I know this could have been better if I had done it on a half sheet, where I would have the room to do what I wanted.

Baby Shower
I hated this cake - it's one of my least favorite I've ever done. The only part I was happy with was the baby, it's a white chocolate mold. This is what happens when you're short on time, and buy frosting from a local cake shop that has whipped frosting, and you are not used to working with it. Oh, well, my cousin appreciated the fact that I brought a cake for her baby shower from 4 hours away!
