Texas Tech College Football Cake
This cake gave me some problems. The helmet was a fiasco, but it was my first one and I know the next one will be better. The face mask broke when I attached it to the helmet, and I had a hard time carving the helmet the way I wanted. Because this cake was 2 flavors, I had to attach 2 cakes together to make the field and there is an obvious dip, as you can see. Oh, well, the birthday boy was so happy to receive it, so that makes up for my disappointment.

Princess Cake
This princess cake is obviously inspired by peggylicious's famous cake. My niece fell in love with it and so I had to give it a try. This was my 2nd attempt at a royal icing tiara and it worked out ok. I did have 2 issues though: I cannot seem to stop luster dust from getting all over everything when I use it and since I did have a white fondant tier, that was a real problem. And, even though I cut my nails super short and wore gloves I can't prevent those pesky nail marks from showing up from time to time. I guess you just have to keep practing, huh?

Gibson Sg Guitar Cake
This is my first sculpted/3-D cake, and of course my first guitar cake. Many thanks to Lucy18 for her help and advice. I'm pretty happy with it overall, but I wish that it wasn't so thick, and that the strings were better. I did make it to scale but it ended up being about 1 1/2 inches thicker than I had planned. Next time, I'll know what to do and what not to do. I did begin creating the "Gibson" logo out of fondant but just ran out of time. Funny how that always seems to happen!

Pink And Black Birthday Cake
This is my 5th fondant cake and I feel like I'm beginning to get the hang of it. This was the first cake I've done that was actually pretty stress free and fun and I didn't end up crying. I had no mishaps at all and my fondant went on smoothly. Yay!!!! This is the 2nd time I made gumpaste roses, the first time I made a royal icing tiara and also my first time baking a 12" round. I made it a bit too big (three rounds, about 5" tall) but it was ok. The birthday girl was so thrilled and that made me very, very happy! What a great feeling. Thanks to all the great artists on cake central for all the inspiration and encouragement. I'm very thankful to have a community like this.

Topsy Turvy Disco Cake
This is my first attempt at - a "topsy turvy" style cake with a disco theme. The colored squares represent a disco dance floor and the little 45 records have disco songs written on them. The topper is a purple platform shoe and then I had stars and musical notes coming out of the top. You can see the little disco dancers I cut out of chocolate fondant are too big for the the bottom tier. The original bottom tier collapsed the night before the party and my husband had to go to Costco the next morning to get me a replacement cake but it was much smaller than what I had wanted. You can see how it cracked internally while in the fridge and then just kind of exploded. What a waste. It was the equivelant of 6 cakes and all made from scratch.

2Nd Fondant Cake
This is the 2nd tiered, fondant cake that I've ever done and I have to say it went a lot smoother than the first one. I bought already colored fondant so that saved some time and I got better at making it stick to the cake without bulges, however I did have some problems with tearing. It was a cake for a friend's birthday party and she was so happy, so that made me feel great. Oh, I did make some red roses that turned out pretty darn good, but the when the gum paste dried, it changed to more of a pinkish color so I had to use already made roses. I will have my 2nd cake class tomorrow so I'll keep at it!

The Before The Cake Class Cake
I am a cookie baker but a couple of weeks ago I suddenly became obsessed with making a fondant cake. I've never made a tiered cake or worked with fondant at all. I had some major problems with the fondant as you can see because I had no clue what I was doing, and I only had 4 hours to color the fondant, cut it out and decorate the cake. I had no idea it was so labor intensive! I am starting a fondant class in a couple of days and making another cake this week. I'll post more photos as I improve. I have to say that so far, it is so much fun to work with fondant and I am truly stunned by the beauty of the cakes on this site. So much inspiration! Thanks for looking!
