Enigma Machine Cake

I made this cake for my daughter - she loves the steam punk style and has started making steam punk jewelry. The bottom layers are covered in marbleized fondant to give it a "wood"effect. The big gear on top is covered in chocolate butter cream icing painted with silver pearl dust with silver sprinkles added. The gear base "housing" has brown and white NECCO candies covering it. The lock and all the chains, gadgets and hardware are made of fondant painted with gold, silver or bronze pearl dust and written on with food coloring markers. I think the screws and the phone earpiece are my favorites! This was a lot of fun to make!! My kids were thrilled with it!
